We purchased this bike for our daughter's 2nd birthday. She loves pink and loves the Disney Princesses so it was a big hit! We purchased the 16" Disney Princess bike for our 3 year old daughter. The 16" bike is for ages 3-7 but is too big for our 3 year old. She now wants to ride her sister's smaller bike (which of course causes issues!). Anyway, the bikes are great, sturdy, good quality and the girls love them. I would suggest this one (the 12") unless your child is about 5 years old just due to size.

Purchased this for my 3 years old birthday, and the awe and amazement on her face was absolutely wonderful! She was so excited to get this and loves learning to ride this. It is the cutest bike in person, and anyone who is a Disney Princess lover, will be thrilled with this. It is super sturdy (my mother in law sat on it to show my daughter) and it held up....so it is durable.

Arrived so fast too! Highly recommend this item...would be a great holiday gift for your little PRINCESS!

I am very happy with this bike. I had originally wanted to purchase a 10" bike, but it has no brakes. The 12" bike was very easy to assemble. It was for my granddaughters 2nd birthday. I was afraid the 12" bike would be to big, but it easily adjusted down to her size. Since the bike has brakes, it taught her how to ride a bike properly. The bike is beautiful and was the "hit" of the party.

Santa brought this for my daughter on Christmas and she loves it. Very durable. Very cute. Two suggestions. The tassels come out easily, if you have smaller children I would take them out before she gets to see them. Secondly, it does not come with a horn! Buy one, you can get them at any bike store, or we got one with a helmet set with Strawberry Shortcake on it, as luck would have it.

Your little girl will love this bike!

Bought the front wheel as well. For the price, these are great wheels. I docked one star for the sleeve joint as it leaves an uneven surface on the rim that leaves a faint tick when the brakes are applied at speed. I know that this tick will go away with time as the rim wears even, but just something worth noting.

Sticky, smooth, very tough. Not a fast race tire, but fantastic for training rides, very good cornering, low rolling resistance but also smooths out bumps nicely. Get the 25 or 28 width and you will be very happy.

I use this on the rear of my Tour Easy recumbent. Great bike but there is a tendancy for the rear wheel to slide out on hard turns and gravel or wet surfaces. I took a couple of spills with the stock tires until I mounted the Schwalbe durano. The tire coumpound has gripped on gravel and slippery wet ashfault several times when I would have been down and sliding on most other tires. Low rolling resistance and pretty good flat protection in a high pressure tire. Four stars only due to the tendancy to pick up small bits of gravel and glass that have to be removed before they work through the tread. A quick inspection before each ride or after riding over glass is necessary.

These tires are used on my tandem with aggressive riding and hold up very well. They offer good traction in both wet and dry conditions and last more than one season of 1500 miles. Resistance to cuts and other punctures seems to be very good too. I recommend using these and buying them from Bike Tires Direct.

After getting tired of punctured paper thin tires, I bought one to test. After a couple hundred miles of puncture free rear tire, and about 3 flats on the front tire (not a Durano), I'm ordering another one to have a trouble free wheelset. They're not the lightest, but they're not super heavy either. I can't really tell the difference anyway when I'm riding around (I'm no ultra fit roadie either, I just ride my road bike to train for mountain biking). Overall, the tire is comfy, not too heavy, flat resistant and does not seem to give up too much in performance to a race tire. It's probably the ideal touring/training/commuting tire. I haven't tried it in the wet, so I can't comment (thank you sunny California).

Edit 3/21/13

After roughly 6-700miles (I don't ride that much...), I only have good things to say about this tire. I have not had any flat since I bought it (versus too many with my paper thin Specialized tires that came with the bike). Tread looks like it will last past 1000 miles. Great tire for its intended use (not flatting).

Still no flat after over 1000 miles. Great tire. Rear looks a little beat up but should last quite a while still. I'm definitely buying another one to replace it.

I had these on my Giant Defy Advanced. The tire seemed to be wearing very well, which is what I expected to get from a Schwalbe Durano tire.

However it didn't turn out well. After about 1000 miles one of the belts in the casing of the rear tire tore inside the casing. This immediately caused a soft spot in the wall of the casing and created a lump in the tire. Enough of a lump to make it un-rideable.

I expected a lot more.

One of my mountain bikes has a (difficult to fix) problem where the rear wheel will slide out of position when I hit a bump. This is one of the few skewers in the market that will hold the wheel in place under any circumstance.

If you need a reliable rear skewer, this is what you're looking for. Granted, it's a bit on the expensive side, but it uses a much superior "Closed Cam" design. The vast majority of the skewer these days are of the "Open Cam" variety, which doesn't grip as well as this.

Purchased this for our grandson's 2nd birthday. The only difficulty was reading the instructions; grandparent eyes need a magnifying glass for the small print! We were able to put it together in less than an hour. Very good quality, and easy to assemble. We've taken it out in the neighborhood, and he loves it! Smooth ride, safety harness, stationery foot rests (until he can reach the pedals), front & rear baskets, easy to steer (unless he tries to run us onto the lawn), and comfortable for an hour-long stroll. Overall a huge success!

Polar RC3 GPS Watch Reviews

I am a fan of Polar Products. I have had many monitors, including the RCX5, which I like a lot. The RCX5 is a more advanced, multi-sport, customizable monitor than the RC3, but I like the all-in-one nature of the latter. As soon as I knew that a monitor with integrated GPS was out, I started looking for places to but it, so I found it on Ebay. It is surprinsingly well sized for a GPS unit (it's not bulky) and the design is a little retro (it looks like a watch from the 80s), so I wish it were better looking. It uses WIND technology so the HR sensor doesn't work with most gym equipment which is a bummer. I had to put away the H3 sensor and started using a Wearlink Hybrid instead. I wish I had realized that before buying, so I had bought the without-HRM version. Using it with the Wearlink Hybrid seems to be good, but recently I have been experiencing occasional bad HR readings... I will have to find out if it's a faulty battery in the heart rate sensor... or perhaps I will buy an H2 sensor instead. Battery life seems to be good because I have to recharge it twice a month, using it at the gym for 6hr/week and using it with GPS on for 3 hours on sundays (my mountain bike ride).

I miss the water-resistant capability of my previous monitors because I like wearing my watch at all times and getting it clean in the shower, but with this unit, I always have to take it off and clean it with a wet cloth so it won't get soaked. Other than that, I am very happy with the monitor because whatever sport I do (all but swimming, which this monitor is not intended for), all I need to have with me is my RC3 and the HR band (no additional sensors required). I also miss the customizable screens of the RCX5, but I guess I can live without those until a more advanced unit is released. =).

2013-01-31 update: I am updating my review, changing the rating from 4 to 3 stars, since the plastic GPS logo from the wrist band just fell off and the lower left button just got cracked. I use this watch mainly in the gym and for running. This shouldn't be happening after 4 months use.

I've had a lot of running watches over the years and my last couple watches were a Polar RC300x with a footpod and then a Timex Run Trainer for the past year. The RC300x was everything I wanted in a running watch sans GPS. The Run Trainer was everything I wanted in a GPS watch but I seriously missed the Polar 'experience'. I think when it comes to a training aid, its hard to beat Polar.

I love everything about this watch. Its super easy to use and has lots of great information during the run. Post-run, its really easy to sync up with polarpersonaltrainer.com and since it syncs/charges via micro USB I don't have to carry around an extra cable on the road which is nice. My Timex ran out of juice a couple times because I didn't have its special charging cable with me.

There is only one issue now that keeps this watch from being perfect as a running watch:

Waterproofing: Its only IPX 7 waterproof which means its safe to shower with or in a rainstorm but don't swim with it. Surprising for a sports watch and I wonder if that's a tradeoff for the micro-usb

So the watch isn't perfect but its also the best one I've personally used.

EDIT You can set the watch up to do interval training with the latest firmware. I will say that as I've used the watch, the volume of the beep is so quiet, however, that its difficult to use with the audio cues.

EDIT 2 As reported at the DCRainmaker blog (and what better place to get information about running watches? ;) ) the $25 fee is not in effect. I don't know if I got bad information from CS at Polar or if they changed their mind on this but as of now, all that is required for the update is to send the watch in to Polar. This will give older units interval support and GPS based altimeter support. New units have this out of the box.

I would love to bump this up to a 5 star review based on the newest functionality but because its so hard to hear the watch beep when I'm running I feel that it will be very difficult to make use of the intervals. The beep should be significantly louder or they should have included a vibration function. That said, this is still an excellent running and biking companion.

I've owned previous polar products. For the most part they were bullet proof.

This one, not so much. The loop on the end of the heat rate monitor strap broke before the end of my first cycle trip.

Then the buttons on the watch started cracking. By the end of my 2rd run, the watch the up/down buttons on the right hand side had broken into two pieces and come apart from the watch body.

After less than 4 hours of use I returned it to the retailer with a broken strap, two broken buttons, a 3rd on its way, and a 4th showing cracking. Who knows what else was destined to break over the next couple years.

Also, even though I enabled sounds in the general menu, and the training sounds options, the watch never made a single noise during the entire time I owned it.

All that said, the watch functions themselves seem pretty solid, fairly quick gps lockup, etc. My only real complaint on that front was the fact that polar apparently no longer provides local software to manage the data collected. Rather expecting you to upload it all to their cloud service at .

In the end, I might have signed up to be a beta tester if the product was 1/3 of the price I paid for it, but as is, too many things failed in the first few hours of use.

I bought this item in November 2012, just after it was released, and after just 2 months of use two of the buttons cracked and fell off and the rubber bands on both sides of the dial have come lose. This is not acceptable from a manufacturer like Polar and I have used other Polar products for years and which have not given me any problems at all. In addition to these build qualty issues, I also have had repeated problems syncing my watch to the HRM device. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't....

Shimano SG-8R36 Universal Hub Kit Nexus (Silver, 36h 8 Speed) Review

I installed this 8 speed Nexus hub on a recumbent bike I built twelve years ago which was originally equiped with a seven speed derailleur gear set. All my riding here in Florida is on flat land with few hills, so eight speeds is plenty. I'm not a "bike" person per se', so I was not aware of how advanced these internal gear systems had become. Initially was going to install on of the old three speed hubs I remember as a kid, but then was directed to the new hubs like this one. The unit appears vey well made and comes with two external gears that connect to you chain. I used the larger of the two. A snap ring holds the gear firmly in place. The instructions leave something to be desired, which is typical of products built out of country it seems, but there is enough data to get you going after a little study. The only real issue I had with the new hub is that it requires re-lacing the wheel with the correct length spokes. In my case, my rear wheel is a 24". After some research I found a "spoke calculator" program on line that provided me with correct length I needed. Figuring spoke length is not as easy as you might think and it's not something you can guess at. All of the math numbers for the hub are clearly stated with the directions. All you need to do is provided the exact specific dia. of your wheel. This is a little tricky and must be exact. There are many places on the internet that will tell you how to do this. As luck would have it, they needed to cut to length and threaded. My local bike shop provided the 36 stainless steel spokes and new nipples for $2.00 each, cut and threaded. Research showed this to be a fair price. Then, after being told the lacing process by a friend who used to work in a bike shop, I managed to lace and true my first wheel. It's not really hard; it just requires knowing what order to install the spokes and a little patience. It took me about two hours, start to finish. I built my own temporary wheel jig to allow me to true the wheel using stuff I had in my shop. No problem there. Also know this hub does not require any off-set or dishing. All spokes are the same length. I was a little worried at first about this, but it came out perfect when installed on the bike.

If you have not ordered your shifter you will not have the correct parts required to shift the gears. There are two options; a twist shifter and a "Rapid Fire" trigger shifter. The trigger shifter is like three times the price of the twist shifter, but it's what I used because that's how the original shifter system worked and I liked it very much. It's up to you you. Both types work well as designed. Anyway, the required cable connectors, come with the shifter, not the Nexus gear hub. Once you are at the point of making the cable connections is where the instructions become a little frustrating. Again, the internet confirmed the frustration with this part of the installation. In short, with the shifter in 4th gear position, there are two small yellow lines at the hub that will line up with each other. Once you have that relationship correct, the bike is ready to ride. The problem, is that they don't really tell you how rotate the gear hub part that the connector fits into. It's under a clockwise tension and trying to rotate it to the required position to install the cable end and set the adjustment length is a b---h. Understand that the hub parts appear to be a plastic type material so it possible to damage those parts if you are not careful. In the end, after a number of hours of four letter words, I finally broke down a machined my own tool that makes this job easy and painless. It basically looks like a small spanner wrench that picks up the small hole in the rotating part of the hub near the cable end.

Once you finished all of the above, you should be ready to ride assuming you have made any other changes needed for this conversion. If your shifter cable is correctly adjusted, shifting is smooth and fast. I did notice for a number of miles that the hub would seem to "skip" a gear every now and then but this is normal until the unit "beds" in. Now, after a hundred miles or so, it shifts like butter. It trouble free, quite and looks great.

Three other things worth noting are; the shifter functions in the opposite manner than the od derailleur shifter did. Where before I would "pull" the top trigger to shift up, the new hub shifts down. Not a big deal, but after many years of shifting with the old system, it takes a few miles to get used to that. Plus, and this is the feature I really love, you can shift to any gear, up or down, with the bike at a dead stop and no spinning of the pedals. I can't tell how may times I would get caught at a light or need to stop short and be in high gear. What a pain.

And lastly, when the hub is in 5th gear, it's direct drive, which means it's most efficient and no wear is being done to the internal gears. As such, I selected a crank gear that allows me to be in 5th gear at my most comfortable cruising speed and proper cadence of about 85 RPM. Just food for thought.

In the end, this project ended up costing a little over $400, which is more than I had counted on, but I turned out exactly like I wanted. Hope this helps for anyone thinking of making this change.

This hub is quiet (no ratcheting) and shifts very cleanly. It's actually kind of spooky how well it works. I've bought 3 so far and am very pleased with the performance.
