The product is a good idea and is built very well. The construction is very beefy and welds are solid. There is one thing I would strongly caution individuals considering this product, however. It does not fit well on frames of bicycles that do not have a "standard" design. In other words, if the lower frame support from the pedals to the rear tire is not straight, you will have an issue. My bicycle has bends in the frame in that area. I tried to "make it work", but halfway through the ride with my dog, he darted to one side and ripped the back wheel out of the frame.

I really like this dog leash. I use it for my border collie mix, my lab mix and my foster dog which is a Dachshund mix. The border collie pulls the bike, which I don't like, but she doesn't get tangled in the leash or the bike so it still works fine. I have to be very careful with her because if she gets distracted (squirrel, other dog, etc.) even though she is less than fourty pounds she can pull the back end of the bike out of balance. I have not ever fallen, but I have to pay extra special attention when I ride with her. The other two are great. They follow along at whatever pace I set and it is great. I would be concerned about anyone using this with a large dog or a high energy dog. My recommendation would be to just keep your eyes open and be ready for anything. Other than that, my pack gets a good run every morning and they really seem to enjoy it.

Looking for a way to get your dog the exercise he/she needs? this is one of the best. There are other fancier designs for more dough with springs and leashes off to the side, but design one works well.

I've heard: "A tired dog is a happy dog" and that I've experienced first hand in the past. I've been very excited about getting this bike leash and my excitement was warranted it's exactly what I needed. I can ride a lot further than I can walk, I don't get bored, I have more fun, I can coast down hills, and all while I'm exercising the dog the dog gets a much better workout than I could ever give him on my own two feet.

It doesn't come with instructions which I found odd, but it is easy to slip the catch on the rear axle and velcro the bar to one of the crossbars of the bike it doesn't require any modifications to the bike and I had mine on in about 10 minutes of thinking and 3-4 minutes of trying it out. I didn't even need any tools, just used the quick release on the rear wheel. I believe it would fit on any bike but I'm no expert on bikes.

My dog is very strong, and is still a puppy. I have a mountain bike with thick tread tires, and he can pull left and right and not have any problems with falling over at all. I could feel the pull but it didn't cause any problems of balance or falling and it did not appear at any time to be dangerous to the dog.

It's worked out well for me, I hope it works out well for you too.

UPDATE: SAFETY WATCH-OUT: With more experience I've had my 100 lb Greyhound Husky mix, who pulls hard to the side at squirrels, bend my rear axle quick release hub while riding, which made my mountain bike back wheel loose. Yesterday while at the bike shop getting new pedals for my wife's bike I noticed a bike on the stand with the same Pyramid bike leash as mine, with original red leash. I mentioned to the shop tech that I had the same item but had changed it out due to the safety issues with my bigger dog. He told me that the bike was in the shop because the dog had bent the quick release hub on that bike so badly that he had trouble getting it out of the bike. Because of this safety issue with bigger dogs I've lowered my rating of this item to three stars. I think it still works well with smaller dogs and medium sized dogs that don't pull, but would not recommend it with larger dogs on a bike with a quick release hub. I think it would be much safer with a rear axle that uses the old fashioned thread and nut due to the much larger and stronger components. In any case if you are using this with a big dog with a quick release axle consider going slower and checking the rear axle frequently. One thing I've considered but haven't tried would be putting a sleeve, like a long washer, over the shaft of the quick release axle make it stronger so it won't bend. It may be worth a try if you are handy with this sort of thing.

I changed mine out to a home made unit that I bolted on. Same concept but studier with my big dog. I picked up a 3/4" x 3/4" square aluminum tube from H Depot. Drilled a through hole in my lower frame that holds the rear tire in two places and bolted it on. I did the bolt holes vertically so they would not affect the up and down stresses and used the smallest diameter bolts, Like 1/8". The end of the tube goes about 10" behind my tire where I drilled a vertical hole that I smoothed (to prevent wear) and thread my bungee through and then tie a knot to prevent it from pulling through the hole. And yes because its on the bottom of the frame I have to unbolt my bracket to remove my rear wheel.

Original: Only 4 stars because attachment to bike frame is a little hokey, but nevertheless it has worked well. I've owned this for a few weeks. I have two dogs I run on this. The larger is 100 lb husky greyhound mix that dashes to the side to chase any small prey (squirrels). I looked at all available similar products and went with this one because it attaches to the lowest point on the bike giving me the most stability when my dog pulls hard to the side. I've also replace the rigid nylon leash supplied with a bungee cord to lessen the shock on both the dog and me when he pulls. If you use a bungee cord make sure it is short enough that the dog can not stretch it so that he can run in front of the front wheel. I started with a 1/8" nylon bungee cord which worked surprising well for a week and then broke at the knot. Now I'm using a 1/4" nylon bungee cord that works really well. My larger dog pulls me with this for about 2 miles at 15-20 MPH (I'm NOT peddling) before he begins to tire. When he pulls sideways hard and sharply, I can feel it but its very controllable on good ground or pavement (I'm 150 lbs). I Haven't tried it in the snow yet, but may switch to bike snow tires. With my larger dog, I use a gentle leader which attaches to his head instead of a regular harness. This may help in limiting how hard he pulls to the side. My smaller dog, a 65 lb border collie / cattle dog mix runs along like he was made for it. I have him in a regular chest harness.

Attaching to the bike. See photos. Important if you have a quick release, the bracket is about 1/4" thick and it is likely that you will need to get a longer rear axle skewer/quick release. I tried to use the one I had but could only grab a few threads which I stripped out. My local bike shop gave me another one for free that was a little longer and had a Steel nut instead of an aluminum nut so I could tighten it hard, which I think is needed more so than a regular wheel attachment. I would have felt better if I was using an old fashioned rear axle that had a threaded shaft and nut that I could have cranked hard.

Safety to consider. Some of the other devices sell a breakaway piece that attaches on the leash. This way in case you or your dog get on the wrong side of a pole, tree, or other unmovable object the breakaway piece safely breaks at a low enough force prevent harm to your dog and you. Worth considering (I should take my own advice)

My 10 y.o. son has bike leash attached to his bike and runs our very energetic lab/pit mix everyday. Bike leash is very sturdy and easy to use. Great for covering more ground quickly if unable to take a walk with your dog. Also helpful in establishing the bike rider as a pack leader. These tires are accurately described as the rims they will fit. Perhaps the seller could also add the fact these are 597 mm tires and fit only older S6 rims typically found on older Schwinn bicycles with 26 inch tires. There are several 26" tires sizes and the buyer needs to know what is needed which is easy to determine by looking at the tire you want to replace. There are very few tire choices for S6 rims these days. This Kenda tire is well made and I've used them for years and they last a long time. The tread style is an accurate reproduction of the tread style of older Schwinn tires from the '60's and '70's. There is no reason to downgrade these tire because the previous reviewer did not know what tire he needed. If you need an S6 tire then these will do the job nicely. It would be nice if Amazon offered these tires in black walls as well a older Schwinn's such as the Breeze originally came with black wall tires.

I recently picked up an old used Schwinn at a flea market that was in good shape except it needed new tires. No problem I thought I have plenty of 26" tires at home.

After 15 minutes of trying to mount a ISO 559mm 26" tire on the rim I took a closer look at the tires that came off the bike."S5 or S6" it said. Some google searching found that Schwinn used ISO 597mm tires on some of it's old bikes.

Bottom line: if you need ISO 597mm tires (S5 or S6) it seems like Kenda and SUNLITE are the only people still manufacturing this tire size. This tire does the job and does it for relatively cheap

I agree with the other review. The gumwall section is inconsistent and is not centered well. It makes the tire appear lopsided when spinning. I also had a very difficult time getting the tires to sit properly on the rims. I don't know if it's because the shipper sent them in a bag and folded them or if the tires are low quality. I have never in my life had any problems installing tires on any other bike rims. I wish there were more options for these rims.

There are few choices when it comes to these vintage size tires. I choose these Kendas because I've had a reasonably good pair of gumwall tires from them before. The quality on these tires, however, is barely satisfactory.

My biggest gripe is that the division between the beige gumwall rubber and the vulcanized black rubber is inconsistent. It weaves back and forth across some of the molded lines on the tire by up to a full cm on one of the tires I received. This makes the wheel seem off center and lumpy even if it is seated correctly and the effect on a spinning wheel is aesthetically displeasing.

The tires are also hard to seat. I wasn't able to get the tire seated perfectly but I can't guarantee whether this is the tire's fault, the rims, or my own lack of experience though I'm usually comfortable with changing tires.

Lumpyness aside, riding on them felt fine and the tread pattern matches what was originally on my Schwinn Collegiate.

I recieved this in 1 day...I don't know how it arrived so quickly. It comes in two pieces. You only need to attach 4 small and three large bolts and you are ready to go. Be sure to get a hitch pin ( sold seperately) I went to Home Depot for mine. This carrier is nice cause it is extra large, very sturdy, but not overly akward to attach. I store mine on 2 recycling bins so that I can easily slide it a bit to adjust for attaching to the hitch. You need a torque wrench ( or a friend who has one ) to secure the 11 bolts. Very simple assembly. This one is the larger size and I'm glad I chose it cause as you will find that in practical use you can haul many more items. I bought wratcheting straps, but the "octopus-style" bungee cords seem to work best for my uses unless you really have a top-heavy or tippy item. I also like the fact that with this one you can add lights...the cutouts are built in the frame. You dont need them for day errands but if I were driving long distance or night travel I would go for the lights. The frame seems very sturdy and I have kept it outside uncovered for several months now. There is the start of rusting at the bolt heads, but I suppose that is to be expected. Perhaps you could spray rustoleum on them as a preventitive. I also notice that there is a very light rust tinge along only one support bar where the steel mesh lies over and must be welded to it. If I could, I would store it in a shed or garage. The hitch bar has a rise to it and I wouldn't

buy one without the rise feature as it adds necessary clearance. Mine has had zero problems over gradings and culverts. For 125 dollars delivered, it is well worth the price for saving me and my forester the aggravation of loading messy/bulky/stinky items into my car and adding lots of cargo carring capacity.

Pros...

+ Solid construction

+ Design allows for good distance between carrier & bumper

Easy access to rear tailgate (SUV)

Plenty of clearance to open tailgate vertically

+ Assembly was straight forward, but allow for extra time

Follow directions; use a torque wrench for peace of mind

+ Impact to fuel economy was relatively minimal.

Hwy MPG was 17.8, vs 19.4, with ~200# load secured in rainproof duffle

Cons (minor)...

+ Packaging could use a redesign; incurred minor chips and scratches fixed with rustoleum

Good:

This unit is bigger than the others. It is 24" wide, when most are 20". I like the extra space for holding those plastic boxes.

Arrived fast

Seems strong enough, looks good enough

Weighs 60lb. Easy to carry by rails with one person and lots of space. For tight areas, may be better with two people.

Not so good:

Shipping box, as others have said, seems inadequate. My UPS guy apologized and said I might want to inspect the package. I told him it's OK, the thing is strong metal, won't be broken but will be scratched. No big deal, since it's not fragile, but it should be better.

Assembly:

Very easy, I thought. BUT, you are asked to provide a torque wrench and not just any torque wrench. I have two, and one only goes up to 45 ft-lbs. Only my heavy-duty torque wrench can handle the 75 ft-lbs required by the 3 big bolts of this carrier. However, my thinking is that you could use a regular ratchet/wrench if you are a strong 175lb+ man and just tighten it as hard as you can. (You assume the risk if your bolts don't hold, of course.) Better to do it right at some point, or swing by any mechanic once you have it basically built but you could use it right away, and fix the torque later.

13mm and 19mm wrenches/sockets needed.

After much research, I finally opted for this hitch carrier and I and so happy with my choice. Unlike the cheaper models, this carrier is extremely well built and sturdy. Very heavy too. I would not suggest this item for someone who is petite and does not have help to slide it in your receiver, because even for a large man, it is heavy and takes some finesse to do it alone. There were several comments about torque wrench, and you really dont need one. Just tighten up the bolts as tight as possible and you will be fine. Also, the size of this model beats the others by far. My suggestion, spend the extra 40 bucks and buy this model.

I use this to cart our big cooler around and still have room for the kids and the dog in our SUV. It was easy to assemble. Took me about 15 minutes with my 6 year old helping to get it together and pop it onto the truck for the first time. Good size and stability.

I typically have two full coolers, a 150 quart marine cooler and an 80 quart cooler, on this along with miscellaneous camping bits like chairs and an easy-up. We've used is several times, and all welds and bolts are intact.

It was worth the money for me.

I am by no means a professional at putting things together but was able to figure out how to put it together even though the instructions have NO words on them and never tell you to put the stickers on.

My 2 year old son seen a photo of it and was trying to get me to get it for him for months. It's going to be his for his birthday. I looks easy for him to use. The faster speed had a lock out so he won't go too fast for him and can't use it until he is older. My father is putting some spay on rubber on the tire to give it some traction because the wheels have no grip they are hard and smooth. The bucket is made out of a very thin and flexible plastic.

It is had a trailer hitch hole in the back but so far have not been able to find the compatible trailer sold by it's self,

This is a great product. I had the most irritating squeak in my bike and it took me forever to discover that it came from the pedal threads. Once I pinpointed the source, all I had to do was to remove them, apply a bit of Phil's Grease and put them back. Now I have a silent bike again.

This is a green, waterproof grease. The consistency is right and it is easy to apply. The tube is plastic (not metallic), which means it will come back to shape after use. Also, it seems to last forever, since the amount usually required to do the job is very small.

When I was just working on one bike (well, one and a half since the other didn't get as much use), a tube of this grease lasted me a loooong time. So if you have one bike and only rarely work on others, this cost isn't too bad because the tube will last you for a few seasons. Over the past couple weeks, I've overhauled/rebuilt 6 bikes and I consumed this stuff really fast!

I'm not convinced that this grease is super special, but it comes in a convenient container. But if you consume a lot of grease, then a marine grease that costs a fraction of the price can be had at almost any auto store (or almost any store with an auto section). I found some that was almost exactly the same consistency as this grease (except it's blue instead of green). I repacked one of my dad's bike's wheel bearings with it and it rolls better than it ever has (my dad has a standard "test").

Anyway, convenient tube, but this just isn't a great value for a waterproof grease.

I don't know how it holds up in the long run. I've used it on all the threads when I was building up my bike. The tube should be plenty for general upkeep of a bike. The label say it's function as a grease and water repellent abilities will hold true until it gets exposed to dirt. Well I hope it will last for half a year a least.

I use this grease for bottom brackets, pedals, brake attachments to braze-ons, seatposts, stem insertion and for any screw on attachments to frame. This grease has been in use for years by some of the best shops in the business. While many cyclists say that they use much cheaper lubricants, I have no problem spending a little extra for a product that has been time tested by the best.

I am a fan of Polar Products. I have had many monitors, including the RCX5, which I like a lot. The RCX5 is a more advanced, multi-sport, customizable monitor than the RC3, but I like the all-in-one nature of the latter. As soon as I knew that a monitor with integrated GPS was out, I started looking for places to but it, so I found it on Ebay. It is surprinsingly well sized for a GPS unit (it's not bulky) and the design is a little retro (it looks like a watch from the 80s), so I wish it were better looking. It uses WIND technology so the HR sensor doesn't work with most gym equipment which is a bummer. I had to put away the H3 sensor and started using a Wearlink Hybrid instead. I wish I had realized that before buying, so I had bought the without-HRM version. Using it with the Wearlink Hybrid seems to be good, but recently I have been experiencing occasional bad HR readings... I will have to find out if it's a faulty battery in the heart rate sensor... or perhaps I will buy an H2 sensor instead. Battery life seems to be good because I have to recharge it twice a month, using it at the gym for 6hr/week and using it with GPS on for 3 hours on sundays (my mountain bike ride).

I miss the water-resistant capability of my previous monitors because I like wearing my watch at all times and getting it clean in the shower, but with this unit, I always have to take it off and clean it with a wet cloth so it won't get soaked. Other than that, I am very happy with the monitor because whatever sport I do (all but swimming, which this monitor is not intended for), all I need to have with me is my RC3 and the HR band (no additional sensors required). I also miss the customizable screens of the RCX5, but I guess I can live without those until a more advanced unit is released. =).

2013-01-31 update: I am updating my review, changing the rating from 4 to 3 stars, since the plastic GPS logo from the wrist band just fell off and the lower left button just got cracked. I use this watch mainly in the gym and for running. This shouldn't be happening after 4 months use.

I've had a lot of running watches over the years and my last couple watches were a Polar RC300x with a footpod and then a Timex Run Trainer for the past year. The RC300x was everything I wanted in a running watch sans GPS. The Run Trainer was everything I wanted in a GPS watch but I seriously missed the Polar 'experience'. I think when it comes to a training aid, its hard to beat Polar.

I love everything about this watch. Its super easy to use and has lots of great information during the run. Post-run, its really easy to sync up with polarpersonaltrainer.com and since it syncs/charges via micro USB I don't have to carry around an extra cable on the road which is nice. My Timex ran out of juice a couple times because I didn't have its special charging cable with me.

There is only one issue now that keeps this watch from being perfect as a running watch:

Waterproofing: Its only IPX 7 waterproof which means its safe to shower with or in a rainstorm but don't swim with it. Surprising for a sports watch and I wonder if that's a tradeoff for the micro-usb

So the watch isn't perfect but its also the best one I've personally used.

EDIT You can set the watch up to do interval training with the latest firmware. I will say that as I've used the watch, the volume of the beep is so quiet, however, that its difficult to use with the audio cues.

EDIT 2 As reported at the DCRainmaker blog (and what better place to get information about running watches? ;) ) the $25 fee is not in effect. I don't know if I got bad information from CS at Polar or if they changed their mind on this but as of now, all that is required for the update is to send the watch in to Polar. This will give older units interval support and GPS based altimeter support. New units have this out of the box.

I would love to bump this up to a 5 star review based on the newest functionality but because its so hard to hear the watch beep when I'm running I feel that it will be very difficult to make use of the intervals. The beep should be significantly louder or they should have included a vibration function. That said, this is still an excellent running and biking companion.

I've owned previous polar products. For the most part they were bullet proof.

This one, not so much. The loop on the end of the heat rate monitor strap broke before the end of my first cycle trip.

Then the buttons on the watch started cracking. By the end of my 2rd run, the watch the up/down buttons on the right hand side had broken into two pieces and come apart from the watch body.

After less than 4 hours of use I returned it to the retailer with a broken strap, two broken buttons, a 3rd on its way, and a 4th showing cracking. Who knows what else was destined to break over the next couple years.

Also, even though I enabled sounds in the general menu, and the training sounds options, the watch never made a single noise during the entire time I owned it.

All that said, the watch functions themselves seem pretty solid, fairly quick gps lockup, etc. My only real complaint on that front was the fact that polar apparently no longer provides local software to manage the data collected. Rather expecting you to upload it all to their cloud service at .

In the end, I might have signed up to be a beta tester if the product was 1/3 of the price I paid for it, but as is, too many things failed in the first few hours of use.

I bought this item in November 2012, just after it was released, and after just 2 months of use two of the buttons cracked and fell off and the rubber bands on both sides of the dial have come lose. This is not acceptable from a manufacturer like Polar and I have used other Polar products for years and which have not given me any problems at all. In addition to these build qualty issues, I also have had repeated problems syncing my watch to the HRM device. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't....
