I'm surprised by the positive reviews on this bike, especially regarding stability. You can stand next to it and tip it over without much effort since it has such a slender frame and tiny rear wheels. Being maneuvered by a top-heavy toddler, it's not stable at all, especially compared to other toddler bike designs. For an otherwise very strong and athletic kid, it surprises me that my son has trouble with this bike, but maybe it is because he's also very tall? Not sure, but I have to be right next to him as he plays with it in case he takes a tumble and now I definitely need to go out and get a helmet for him. I thought he could putter around the house on it for fun, but not so much.

This is a trike with one of the lowest weight capacities of any I've seen. Even if it "expands" in size, the bike probably won't support a growing child weight-wise. And frankly, the skinny seat doesn't look as comfortable (or as healthy for a boy, anyway) as a number of other options out there. I'd personally also prefer a removable handle, so will probably go get a version with one of those. Even from the same company, they have a model that is lower to the ground with a wider wheel base, a larger seat, a removable handle and also a much higher weight capacity.

All in all, very disappointed with this one and wish I had done more research before buying what looked like a cute little toddler bike. And I now see that Radio Flyer has drastically cut the price on this particular model, so I wouldn't be surprised if they are getting rid of it.

This is our second grow n' go bike. Our first game from a yard sale. I got tired of my children by-passing the (seemingly) 1,000 other peddle-toys to fight over this little bike. We have an open main floor and my children ride these little bikes around and around a 'track' from our dining room-kitchen-lviving room and back.

Why my Kids LOVE IT

-It is soooooo small that my 1.5 year old can use it.

-It is small enough to be less intimating to even young children.

-Easy to use-no brakes-they just peddle backwards

-easy to navigate with. Their other little bikes are more likely to tip over-and these have never.

Why Mom LOVES IT

-Good buy

-Good build

-Easily adjustable-as in-you pull a lever and lengthen or shorten it-so you can change it back and forth for different sized little ones.

-No AIR in tires-no bike pumps, etc.

-They can ride them inside and outside.

-They're light enough to carry in and out if need be.

-Don't leave marks on "my" floorwe have hardwoods that have a moderate amount of imperfections-they are not model home quality (after three kids)-so if these bikes leave marks they are minor enough to blend in with any normal wear.

Only issue-

On hardwoods and with enough space-they can get going fast enough to warrant a helmet.

Product overall was very cute and my grandson loved it and can already ride it because you could easily adjust the seat. My only concern is that he may not be able to ride it as long as he would with a different bike. The customer service from the company was terrific. We didn't receive the bike on the day we were suppose to even though all the paperwork and tracing the package said it was delivered. I called the company and they sent out another one. They were fantastic. They even sent it overnight so I could receive it in time for Christmas. Great customer service.

I bought this for my grandson for Christmas. It is a little more unstable than a tricycle and the pedals seem to be a little smaller than the tricycle too. He really doesn't seem to mind though, he has been spending a lot of time on it!

After taking a look at reviews here on Amazon, and comparing several starter tricycles for my daughter, we decided to go with this model. It has some good points, but also several problems.

First the good points:

Fairly easy to put together (instructions are even decent)

Paint is applied nicely, with no chipping

Being able to control the bike while walking it is great, and the parent steering wheel can be removed later

Good for teaching your child to get confident on a tricycle

Can replace a stroller for downtown walks

Some small problems:

The wheels are made of hard plastic. They are fairly thin. After just a bit of use, I see significant wear. Inflatable tires would be much better.

The tricycle will suddenly emit an ear-piercing screech. It's very difficult to pinpoint where the sound is coming from. I've been able to stop this by applying WD-40 or other lubricant to all the moving parts. The sound goes away for a while, then comes back again.

*** IMPORTANT ***

One very big problem:

The handlebar stem connects to the front wheel with an inadequate and potentially dangerous system. The two parts are joined with a clip that you tighten with a screwdriver. This clip is then covered with a piece of decorative plastic so you don't see it. The problem is, the clip loosens over time. At some unpredictable point, the handlebar and front wheel separate and the tricycle collapses. This happened to us on a trip. Fortunately, our daughter was not riding when this happened, as it would surely have caused injury. Still, I had to carry the tricycle in four parts for the rest of the trip. I re-installed the clip. Then I removed the decorative cap so I can see the clip. Now I check the clip before each trip to make sure it's fully tightened. This is a major defect in the construction and should be immediately replaced with a stronger bolt or screw assembly.

Conclusion:

This offers some great learning and confidence-building potential. But the dangerous clip assembly needs attention and brings the overall rating of this product down to the lowest level. If they fixed this problem, it would be rated much higher.

I'll be contacting the manufacturer for an explanation of the problem. I'll request a replacement or upgrade of this tricycle and will report back on my progress.

We purchased this trike for my daughter's 2nd birthday. It was a big hit! It was simple to assemble, and seems very durable. The steer bar is VERY HANDY, and works well for pushing an steering the trike. I'm very happy with this trike and would highly recommend it.

It works great for bothand the seat is adjustable so both of them fit the same size bike, on different settings (we bought one for each). Great trike for young children who are pushed but when they are riding on their own they can't stop easy. The bike keeps rolling since there is no way to back pedal. It is made to be pushed.

The Nirve Forty-Nine is a splendid cruiser. Gearing is just perfect, this bike is very well constructed. I learned when purchasing that there are actually two models available, one with the front hand brake and coaster brake the other (less expensive) model with just the coaster brake (pedal). I highly recomend paying a little more and getting the hand brake. Overall I feel this bike is an excellent value for the money spent. If you are into classic styled cruisers this is a bike for you!

only 4 stars as the bike only has 3 speeds. Once you go 15 miles per hour, it is hard to pedal. 5 or 7 would be ideal. the pair of pedals that came with the bike absolutely sucked they are falling apart and have to buy a new pair.
