This is a very high-quality piece made out of heavy steel wire, with great welds and zinc plating. It looks very sturdy and should support plenty of weight. It's also made in the USA, which is another bonus. However, this basket will require some time and effort effort to mount on most mountain bikes. If I didn't have a nice collection of fasteners, a power drill, and the tools required to cut bolts to size I probably would not have been able to mount this on my bike. It doesn't just bolt on and you shouldn't expect it to. I'm guessing it would work much better if you had the old-school cruiser style bike with fenders and chrome.

This is a quality product, but you might have to use some ingenuity when it comes to getting it on your bike.

i got these baskets off craigslist but these are exactly what i have, with all the same parts.

The biggest issue for me was successfully installing the baskets onto my bike. maybe if i wasn't just a regular ol commuter but a bike tech, or superman, i'd be able to get them on. i have an 18.5" Jamis commuter. the main problem is not the "legs" that attach near the wheel, but attaching the parts at the bottom of the seatpost. it has so far been impossible because once attached, the attachment prevents the back brakes from functioning. in the process of trying to attach, i've scratched up some paint on my bike.

i went to a local bike shop and someone there thankfully devised a solution for $5. i love the baskets!

thus, while i recommend the baskets, you should know that depending on your bike, you might run into a little trouble installing

First of all, I hate to see a good product tarnished by some bad reviews because some half wit can't spend 5 minutes trying to ummm FIGURE IT OUT ON THEIR OWN. The assembly is simple, almost fool proof. No wonder India and China are gladly taking any job that requires any sort of critical spatial thinking. But that's a story for another day. A few notes, and even a sarcastic but helpful link for some of the people struggling out there:

1. Seriously, try and figure it out before complaining on Amazon. If youre still stuck, well, gosh, maybe someone at Wald thought of that and put some instructions online.... Hmmmmm.... If only there was a way to use some sort of... computational ENGINE.... to SEARCH..... The WEB for some instructions! Holy crap someone already invented that? I found this .PDF to be particularly useful:

2. The product itself is quite nice, especially for the price. I happen to work in an industry where wire formed products are quite common (consumer goods, ie shower caddies and the like. Exciting, I know!) and for the amount of wire, welds, and most importantly, the quality of the plating (which is crucial for rust protection) are all top notch. The nuts are actually nylon locking. The bolts are not stainless steel, but I upgraded at Lowes for like $2.

3. Lastly, the baskets are 12.5" by 10" by 4.5" at the bottom and taper out towards the top. Plenty big for most items.

I am pleased with my purchase.

Honest reviews on Wald 520 Rear Twin Bicycle Carrier Basket (13.5 x 6.25 x 11)

The pictures don't do the basket justice. I was a little worried about the quality when I ordered it, but while reading various bike blogs the name 'Wald' kept coming up always attached to assurances of quality. The images didn't reassure me and the price made me uncertain but I purchased the basket anyway and I'm very glad that I did.

The box arrived pretty banged up with poor packaging but the baskets were in top condition. My husband and I installed them on my Huffy cranbrook cruiser with only a little bit of difficulty on the chain side. Eventually I stuck the nut a piece of tape and held it in place while my husband got the screw aligned and tightened it up. We had to take the seat off to install the brackets that attach to the back of the bike but that was mostly because of some awkward angles and the fact we didn't have any needle nosed pliers, just a pair of blunt noses and a flat head screwdriver.

A word of caution: if you have painted fenders lay a towel over them before you start installing the baskets. My fenders are now scuffed up from the metal rubbing against the paint as we shifted the baskets around for the best fit. Doesn't rate detracting a star as it was our own fault for lack of foresight.

Once installed the baskets are quite solid, much more so than I thought they would be. I would pay $30 again for these baskets I'm quite happy with them. If the Wald rack (sans baskets) is the same quality as the ones I bought I would be perfectly confident that a friend could hop onto the back for me to pedal around in the dutch style.

I bought this for my wife's new bike. She delivers newspapers and was having a difficult time carrying all of her papers and as a result would have to make more than one trip to finish her route. Now she can do it all in one trip and the papers stay bundled. Having the baskets to the sides keeps the center of gravity down lower so the bike is more stable.

Installation was a snap and the baskets (and the goods inside) stay completely secure.

UPDATE:

Just to let you all know how it holds up over time... Two summers of daily use and still in excellent shape.

Don't know what to say, it's an axle. Exactly as described, fit perfectly. A few minor scratches on it, but it's going inside a bicycle wheel, so who really cares? Significantly cheaper than anyplace else I've found, B&M or online. Got a lot of slack from several local bike shops when trying to find an axle, and they wanted to charge an arm and a leg. Found what I needed without the attitude for 1/10th the price!

I had to guess as the bike I was replacing it on was an old french model, but it fit perfectly. Couldn't be happier.

I chose this rating, because I never received this part. I dislike waiting all this time, and never receiving anything.I would recommend this part to no one, because they never will receive this part, even though they paid full price for it.

great fit, ..

the dust cap is useless cause

it is smaller than mine rear hub, however it fits to the front hub..

oh well..

My son wanted pegs in the back and the wheel axle was too short. These fit perfectly. I did have to use the washer nuts from the old axel to get the distance right, but at the end, the length, fit, finish and the threads are all what I had expected.

Only thing was that I ordered the part on 8/3 and it did not arrive till 8/19. I love the axle, but shipping took a while.

Fisher-Price Go, Diego, Go Tough Trike Reviews

First of all, I have to say, don't worry about the review that only gave this bike one star because of the recall. Yes, this bike was recalled in the fall of 2010 because the plastic "key" stuck out too far and kids were getting hurt as they fell on it. But they've fixed that and the bikes being sold today have a much smaller "knob" that kids can still turn but won't get hurt on.

We gave this to our son for his 2nd birthday a few weeks ago. It was an instant hit. There is some assembly required, but as soon as we got it together, he started driving it around. His feet don't reach the pedals quite yet (probably won't for another year), but that doesn't stop him from driving it "Flintstone style."

The bike is the perfect height--not too tall, not too short. It has a nice wide "stance" and I don't worry about it tipping over. The plastic itself is lightweight, but sturdy. It's easy enough to pick up by one handle and carry it around if I need to.

The thing that really sold me on this was the seat that opens up and it has proven to be a favorite feature of my son's as well. He stores anything and everything in there from snacks to toys to various sticks and stones that he finds around.

This bike is something I see him using for years to come as he grows into the pedals. My only complaint (and the only reason for my 4 star rating) is that the stickers are already starting to peel off, but I'm planning on contacting Fisher Price to see if they will send me some new ones. I would definitely buy this bike again.

This little bike has been great fun for my 4 grandsons. It stays outside all the time, gets used (and abused) by 4 boy, ages 3-6, and still is in great shape. I have a slight hill in the back yard and they love to push it up to the top and then take turns riding it all the way down! The seat opens to make a great hide-away for special finds. All in all, a fun toy for little ones active imagination and energy.

Great toy, my grandson loves it. Not very educational but very entertaining. And for a few hours in the day that is what they need.

Like that it is higher than the old "Big Wheels". My son likes the seat that goes up to hide things in.

We love our Diego trike! We bought it for my just turned 2 year old son and he's obsessed with it. My 4 year old even steals it when my little one isn't looking! It's gotten a TON of usage and seems to hold up real well. The only thing was that the stickers included do NOT stick well. But that's not a big deal to us.

Nexus Shimano cog Reviews

Shimano SG-3C40 Nexus Sprocket

It fits perfectly on an old single speed coaster brake hub. It makes my beach cruiser noticeably easier to pedal into the wind and up hills compared to the old and worn 19 tooth sprocket it replaced. It delivers a nice, straight chain line with the concave side facing toward the hub. No problems with the part after 11 days and 261 miles of cycling.

It's wonderful for local rides in town. Start and stop riding is easier. Merging up onto the highway is easier. Heavy cargo is carried smoothly. Climbs that used to be slightly strenuous are a breeze now. I think it's better for the bike not to stress the cranks and chain the way higher gears tended to do.

It's easier to keep clean than the old sprocket. It's physically larger, so there's more clearance between the teeth and spokes for a gear brush and towel to remove road grime.

After a few test rides and bearing cone adjustments, the bike rode silently with the new sprocket. Shimano did a great job manufacturing this product. It was shipped with a thin coating of oil, which I presume protected it in storage.

I will definitely buy this brand again when the time comes. This sprocket starts to spin out the 44:20 drivetrain at around 18 mph, but I've gotten the bike up to 22.2 mph on a downhill run. My average speed is 10.5 mph, so I might try an even lower gear some day. It feels good to ride at 13 to 14 mph in tailwinds with minimal effort, so this 20 tooth sprocket is close to ideal.

Shimano makes nice cogs and chainrings they are thicker than most which adds rigidity to the driveline. And they look good too.

I recently built a simple Nexus 3-speed bike, converting it from an old 18-speed setup. The frame required that I use a smaller than desirable chainwheel in the conversion. This smaller 16T cog was a perfect solution to maintaining a reasonable pedal speed.

Honest reviews on Nexus Shimano cog

This is the smallest (fastest) cog for the Alfine/Nexus hubs. 16T is 13% faster than the 18T that came on my 2011 Dahon Cadenza XL which uses a 32T chainring. This is the difference between keeping up with traffic and getting passed by angry drivers. Take it to a shop where the mechanic knows about hub gears. This will REQUIRE tensioning your chain after installation.

I will buy another one when it wears out. Then another one after that. The price is right. My mech wanted "a beer's worth" to install it. I gave him $15 but I could have easily given him $5 and made him happy. Takes 5 minutes to install the cog, but the chain tensioning on my bike is very complicated and that's what you'll end up spending the labor on.

I put this bigger cog on my coaster brake cruiser and now I can climb a few of the local hills without having to stand on the pedals. It fit my wheel just fine, but I did have to add a link of chain to make the whole thing work. None of my local bike shops carry anything like this; I was glad to be able to find it on amazon.
