We received this bike as a gift for our two-year-old daughter. She is very tall (beyond 97th percentile) for her age (36.5 inches at 24 months), so we all expected this bike to fit her immediately. Unfortunately, when she sits on the seat her toes *just* touch the floor. So even with shoes, there is no way she'll be confident enough to ride this anytime soon.

I'm not sure how Smart Gear can claim that this bike is for "two years to 60 lbs" when my two-year-old (literally the tallest 2-year-old any of our friends has ever seen) is too short for it.

In addition, the rear axle arrived bent and the back wheel won't freely spin. But I've contacted Smart Gear and I imagine they'll replace it without a problem. Other it seems like a solid toy.

Normally I wouldn't review this yet (since we haven't really used it), but I thought some parents would benefit from this height info...

Cuter than the rest, and very well made, with solid wood and rubber. I prefer it to the skuut and the like a bike (both of which friends' kids have). My daughter was a bit hesitant at first to make the switch from her trike, but soon got the hang of it. We've had it several months now, and it looks like it will hold up well to wear and tear.

Like many, we were looking for a less expensive 'wooden balance bike' for our daughter. We chose the Smart Gear model (via Amazon) because it seemed like the right choice for us. We were not disappointed! It was easy to put together, and it's holding up very well after 7 months of play. No problems with the inner tubes, just keep them filled with air. And keep the allen wrench (included) in a safe place because the nuts & bolts may need a little tightening now and then. (It would be great if couple of extra nuts & bolts were provided since they're securing moving parts, they can loosen, fall out, and become lost). But we are very pleased with our purchase. It's been a pleasure watching our daughter gain mastery at gliding up and down the sidewalks of our neighborhood. She loves it!

A solid value, highly recommended!

Smart gear balance bike for girls was well made, appealed to my granddaughter's feminine and athletic traits.

Her father and 2 older brothers enjoyed assembling it and teaching her how to ride. I searched a long time for a

gift for a young girl what wasn't related to being a princess, a housekeeper or a hairdresser!

I love this bike! We bought it for our daughter's 2nd birthday... and did not measure her inseam. Now, 6 months later she is JUST barely able to reach her tipy toes to the ground when sitting on the seat. HOWEVER, that is our own fault. The bike is really cute, well-made, looks and seems durable. I love the carry handle. And Im so glad that it is girly without being pink and princess-crazy. A fun note: the small personalized license plates you can find in most novelty/souvenir shops fits perfectly on the front piece, just below the handle bars... just add a little super glue ;)

The helmet in the picture shows a green Hot Wheels car and the one we received has a red one which does not match the bicycle we bought it to go with. The helmet itself is well made by Bell, it was just not what we ordered.

Nexus Shimano cog Reviews

Shimano SG-3C40 Nexus Sprocket

It fits perfectly on an old single speed coaster brake hub. It makes my beach cruiser noticeably easier to pedal into the wind and up hills compared to the old and worn 19 tooth sprocket it replaced. It delivers a nice, straight chain line with the concave side facing toward the hub. No problems with the part after 11 days and 261 miles of cycling.

It's wonderful for local rides in town. Start and stop riding is easier. Merging up onto the highway is easier. Heavy cargo is carried smoothly. Climbs that used to be slightly strenuous are a breeze now. I think it's better for the bike not to stress the cranks and chain the way higher gears tended to do.

It's easier to keep clean than the old sprocket. It's physically larger, so there's more clearance between the teeth and spokes for a gear brush and towel to remove road grime.

After a few test rides and bearing cone adjustments, the bike rode silently with the new sprocket. Shimano did a great job manufacturing this product. It was shipped with a thin coating of oil, which I presume protected it in storage.

I will definitely buy this brand again when the time comes. This sprocket starts to spin out the 44:20 drivetrain at around 18 mph, but I've gotten the bike up to 22.2 mph on a downhill run. My average speed is 10.5 mph, so I might try an even lower gear some day. It feels good to ride at 13 to 14 mph in tailwinds with minimal effort, so this 20 tooth sprocket is close to ideal.

Shimano makes nice cogs and chainrings they are thicker than most which adds rigidity to the driveline. And they look good too.

I recently built a simple Nexus 3-speed bike, converting it from an old 18-speed setup. The frame required that I use a smaller than desirable chainwheel in the conversion. This smaller 16T cog was a perfect solution to maintaining a reasonable pedal speed.

Honest reviews on Nexus Shimano cog

This is the smallest (fastest) cog for the Alfine/Nexus hubs. 16T is 13% faster than the 18T that came on my 2011 Dahon Cadenza XL which uses a 32T chainring. This is the difference between keeping up with traffic and getting passed by angry drivers. Take it to a shop where the mechanic knows about hub gears. This will REQUIRE tensioning your chain after installation.

I will buy another one when it wears out. Then another one after that. The price is right. My mech wanted "a beer's worth" to install it. I gave him $15 but I could have easily given him $5 and made him happy. Takes 5 minutes to install the cog, but the chain tensioning on my bike is very complicated and that's what you'll end up spending the labor on.

I put this bigger cog on my coaster brake cruiser and now I can climb a few of the local hills without having to stand on the pedals. It fit my wheel just fine, but I did have to add a link of chain to make the whole thing work. None of my local bike shops carry anything like this; I was glad to be able to find it on amazon.
