my husband did his research and we ended up choosing this windshield. we really love it. i will say that where the top and bottom windshields meet they did hit and made an annoying sound. so he went out and bought some weather striping and solved that problem. we havent' had anyother issues and installation was really easy. we have a 2011 kawasaki teryx. also we recently installed doors and lights. to make a tighter fit between all of the windshield and door we used pipping insulation. just some ideas for other people.

I really like the concept open gap keeps dust down a bit & gives ventilation but the position of the separation line is right in the main field of vision for those who are short. I think the bottom portion is too high I wound up raising the top half as high as I could and leave the windscreen open wide for a more unobstructed view. Thinking about cutting 2 3 inches off the bottom glass where it meets the hood. Had to use garden hose for the protective contact with the hoodthe supplied rubber gasket is inadequate. Bright green hose split with a sharp knife works (my Teryx is green). Or vinyl tubing is an option. Had it in rough ground did not break it yet....with it open. Also needs to be a bit easier to remove the top portion, would offer more utility.

Packaging was perfect, shipping was much faster than expected. I am an expeienced home bike mechanic and had no problems with final assembly and adjustments. I bought this bike for my fiance, who is somewhat new to road biking. Although we have not had a chance to get out on the road yet, I am hoping to bump this up to 5 stars after we can ride and evaluate. Great bike for the money, and with Shimano 105 not bad! I am so-so on the brake calipers (generic) and would have preferred 105 there, too but at the price, no complaints. Similarly equipped bikes at LBS's are running several hundred $$$ more, so I think we did well on this Diamondback. My only complaint some paint overspray on the downtube next to the headtube, a minor finish imperfection. No worries.

I have been a commuter on my hybrid bike for 2+ years except for a few months we only get a few hours of daylight in Pacific Northwest. I joined a group ride last year, to quench a biking bug during those no bike months, I got hooked on road biking.

I was keeping up with my friends with my hybrid, but I finally decided to get a road bike (lucky me for a summer birthday). My intimidation to the horned dropdown handle bar was no longer. I was looking at a used, higher-end bike on Craigslist, but it's hard to find one in your size. Then I started looking at new, lower-end bikes (meaning non-carbon fiber). I read a few people commenting online that unless you are going uphill and/or when you start up after traffic stop, you won't notice the difference in weight of bike. That was all the info I needed for me. Bike price goes up to shave off a few pounds. Besides, I weigh 115#. I am still lighter overall (bike+body) than many.

I looked at Trek (of course) and many other brands my neighborhood bike shops carry. For the same price range, nnone offers Shimano 105 on an aluminum bike with a carbon fork eexcept for Diamondback. I bought one from a chain bike shop. I decided on Airen 3 over 4 because of the price difference (and I am sure I won't know the difference between 105 & Ultegra :-).

I put on 500+ in little over a month. My arms don't fall asleep during longer rides. I took it back to a store for little adjustment, but that's expected for any new bike. Overall, I have no regrets on purchasing this bike. A perfect fit for a beginners and beginners+. I am doing STP on this bike next year!

I got this ccx delivered in may and went on my first CX ride recently.

It's a tight quality build and handles the light gravel, dirt

and other obstacles well with the little knobby tire treads.

The lightweight alum frame makes all the difference!!

and the top rail design is unique and looks good.

I'm very happy with the SORA shift/brake/gearing assembly.

I wasn't sure that I would like this type of system, but

it has fast action and is flawless.

I added a steerer extender on top to raise the bars

and also added a shorter stem so as not-to-be hunched

over so much. (this worked out great).

On road this ccx rides smooth and fast.

Bottom line is that this bike has the quality rims,frame,gearing and

design to compete with more expensive makers....but I saved roughly

$400 buckies by getting this one and I'm happy with it.

Ps...I rate 4 stars because I would have preferred black

and don't know why they don't offer it??

Pss...get a hex key set...you'll need it for assembly.

I purchased this bike to ride the dirt and gravel roads in southern New Hampshire. I'm an experienced road cyclist and long time racer but I'm amazed how much you get for $700 in this bike. I've paid more than that (much more!)for a single race wheel. Nice hydro-formed aluminum frame, sturdy carbon fork, and decent components that just work. So far, I've been bashing around on our dirt and gravel back roads without incident. As another reviewer pointed out, the stem is designed for racing. I installed an inexpensive stem riser and shorter stem -a small expense considering the low cost of the bike. You will also need some skill and experience putting the bike together. Lacking those skills, you may have to go to a local bike shop for help -something they will no be very happy about.

PS: I saw this bike first on sale at Performance bike -but the Amazon price was $200 less. Performance offered to price match; but refused to match Amazon Primes free 2 day shipping. Duh!

Best Deals for Diamondback 2013 Steilacoom CCX

I live in Charleston, SC which means I am just a few miles from Frances Marion National Forest. There are miles and miles of gravel roads to burn it up. And boy howdy does this bike deliver. The 700x32c tires are a champ on the gravel roads. I am currently training for a 65 miles cross race and I have every intention of bringing this puppy to show. The frame is very light for the price. When I put mine on the scale it clocked in at 21 pounds. Compare this to my DB Recoil that is sitting on a hefty 34 pounds. While this model does not have the 105 gearing it does shift just as smooth as butter. I find the break/shifters where a little confusing at first but after the first 50 miles it was second nature. And the bike is sturdy as well. While being a very sexy in her polished red finish I have ridden her hard and laid her down four times. She takes the beating and keeps right on going. It also came with extra spokes and clear instructions on how to put it together a big plus as I am not master bike mechanic. The additional set of breaks on the handlebars as a little odd at first as I was not used to it, but now I find myself loving it. Especially when doing group rides it means that I can be on the breaks very fast.

If there is a down side to the bike its got to be the breaks. Man was a royal pain in the ass to setup. I got them working but ended up taking it to my local bike shop to get them dialed in. They have plenty of stopping power but man they were annoying to get setup and quiet. And after a few rides I had to tune them again. I get the idea of the breaks is that you don't want to dirt and/or mud to cake up on them but if you can afford it Cross bikes with Disc breaks are a huge plus but they are also a load more expensive. :(

The race is September 28th and I will let you know how the bike does when I push it hard on race day.

======Update====

I have put probably 300 miles on the bike so far and had my first part wear out. Its my fault but still worth noting. The bike uses BB30 bearings in the crank this is has pluses and minuses. The good thing is its a high quality bearing that is cheap and easy to change. The down side is that they are susceptible to trash getting in them because of the drop in design. On a ride where the trail got REALLY sandy I must have gotten sand in the bearing and it started protesting. Now it never quit and left me on the side of the trail, but it is something to think about. The cost of the new bearing was 20 buck and like I said its a drop in kind of thing.

These are good tires that I have purchased and mounted many times. They do have a tight fit but I have always been able to mount them to my Campagnolo wheels with my hands and the occasional assistance of a tire lever. Have used Vittoria, Continental, Hutchinson, and Vredesteins and I now look specifically for the Vredestein Fortezza Tricomp. Usually can pick them up on sale in early winter. Good rollers, grippy in corners, and no major flatting issues. Sure, the occasional flat here and there but that is something I have experienced with every brand of tire I have ever ridden. I tend to get a couple thousand miles out of these tires if I push it.

These are fantastic racing tires. They can hold up to 145 psi, and have a higher kevlar count than most other tires in this price range (less flats. They have a very hard and fast feel on the road, but not like a hard cased tire. Also, the Vredestein tubes are great, and you can get them with up to an 80mm stem, perfect for dish rims (i have 404's) because you can get rid of those faulty valve adapters.

This is a good training tire. I have ridden Mich Pro 3, Specialized Turbo. The best thing is that at 145 psi, you glide across the road. I increased my cruising speed abut 3mph on the flats. NOT a great tire for steep climbs. The center tread is a bit grippy and makes the wheel spin up hard to maintain, especially at 12%. I have run over tons of sharp rocks etc...unlike the Mich Pro 3, no flats. I have about 1500 miles on this tire and like it. I will probably return to Mich Pro 3 or 4 though for the faster part of the summer.

This is about as good as it gets for a racing tire. I'd consider it a poor mans Corsa Evo. They improve ride quality significantly, are sensational in wet, and also pretty cut resistant for such a refined riding tire. For those that had difficulties installing this tire on their wheel, I'd probably suggest they revisit proper installation technique. Make sure the bead is in the channel before working the second bead on. They need every millimeter to get seated. I've installed this tire on practically every rim made, without tire levers. If you have weak fingers and hands, consider soaking the tires in warm water in the kitchen sink before hhaving a go at it, and you'll be suprised. Its unfortunate that folks gave bad review for such a fine tire because they didn't know how to properly mount them. Great value for money. A racing or training tire. Not for a commuter though.

For years I used this tire. Then decided to try Michelin Pro 3 and some Continentals. I'm back with Vredestein. The TriComps are the most durable of all I've tried. And it's nice to be able to cram 140+ psi into these babies!!!! They roll like a dream. The last set I had on my Trek Madone went well over 3,000 miles before I had to replace a tube. And even then the tire was usable for 1,000+ more miles. Just like the Michelins, be prepared for a tougher-than-usual roadside tube change: they can be difficult to press onto the rims. Carry and extra tire lever--or even 2--and you should be fine. If you've got weak hands, head to a bike shop for the fix.
