Packaging was perfect, shipping was much faster than expected. I am an expeienced home bike mechanic and had no problems with final assembly and adjustments. I bought this bike for my fiance, who is somewhat new to road biking. Although we have not had a chance to get out on the road yet, I am hoping to bump this up to 5 stars after we can ride and evaluate. Great bike for the money, and with Shimano 105 not bad! I am so-so on the brake calipers (generic) and would have preferred 105 there, too but at the price, no complaints. Similarly equipped bikes at LBS's are running several hundred $$$ more, so I think we did well on this Diamondback. My only complaint some paint overspray on the downtube next to the headtube, a minor finish imperfection. No worries.

I have been a commuter on my hybrid bike for 2+ years except for a few months we only get a few hours of daylight in Pacific Northwest. I joined a group ride last year, to quench a biking bug during those no bike months, I got hooked on road biking.

I was keeping up with my friends with my hybrid, but I finally decided to get a road bike (lucky me for a summer birthday). My intimidation to the horned dropdown handle bar was no longer. I was looking at a used, higher-end bike on Craigslist, but it's hard to find one in your size. Then I started looking at new, lower-end bikes (meaning non-carbon fiber). I read a few people commenting online that unless you are going uphill and/or when you start up after traffic stop, you won't notice the difference in weight of bike. That was all the info I needed for me. Bike price goes up to shave off a few pounds. Besides, I weigh 115#. I am still lighter overall (bike+body) than many.

I looked at Trek (of course) and many other brands my neighborhood bike shops carry. For the same price range, nnone offers Shimano 105 on an aluminum bike with a carbon fork eexcept for Diamondback. I bought one from a chain bike shop. I decided on Airen 3 over 4 because of the price difference (and I am sure I won't know the difference between 105 & Ultegra :-).

I put on 500+ in little over a month. My arms don't fall asleep during longer rides. I took it back to a store for little adjustment, but that's expected for any new bike. Overall, I have no regrets on purchasing this bike. A perfect fit for a beginners and beginners+. I am doing STP on this bike next year!

Greetings!!!

I spent a lot of time reviewing many machines and watching videos and I finally decided on this one.

I have been riding recumbent bikes for 8 years and I have owned ones with lots of bells and whistles,

and just simple manual machines for setting your own loads for intensive training.

I just finished putting this together and it is a great performer. It has a very solid frame and the

magnetic resistance load goes from very light to extreme load. It will challenge anyone wishing for

a hard workout. The computer has the basics for letting you know distance, speed, elapssed time, calories

burned (approx. only), etc. If you are not looking for programmed routines and just want a good

manual riding machine, you will not be disapointed. I was very surprised at the solidness of this bike.

It is also very quiet and will not interfere at all with watching TV.

You get your money's worth and this is an excellent buy for this price. I paid $157.

It does take a while to put together, but it is all very clear and you cannot put the wires together wrong

due to their male/female connections. Do not feel intimidated by the assembly and take your time and enjoy the

experience. When you finally sit down on it you will not regret it.

I gave it 5 stars for the quality and ruggedness of the frame and the ease of use.

I have been using this recubent bike for 2 weeks now. It is definately quiet. You cannot even hear yourself pedaling.I have been watching TV from about 18 ft.away. There are no problems noticed and you get a great workout. It will be a long time to ever conquer the magnetic resistance loading at #8 position and pedal 20 MPH. I am only in the 3-4 range and that is a good challenge. The display, even though not backlit, can be seen even in low light conditions due to the large numbered display. I am 5' 11" and the adjustment is just fine. I have it set on the longest position because I like to sit slightly lower. It seems then that it will favor shorter persons from there. I like the scan feature and I like to set a single function by just pressing the mode button until it is on the one I want. Also, the pulse sensor seems to work above average to the ones I have used on other machines. Without a doubt this is a great deal for the money. I will update this again in a few months.

This bike is still going strong like day one. The magnetic tension is awesome. More than enough load than you will ever need.

I use the moitor for speed,distance, time, etc. The calories burned is probably an average. Other than that if you are looking for

a good workout this is more than ample and was a great price, looking back. I am glad I bought this unit ove others I looked at.

The heart rate monitor seems to be more sensitive than other ones I have owned. I use it mostly to check my heart rate on cool down.

I love the fact that it is so quiet. No pedal noise or mechanical noise. You can hear the TV or Stereo and not even hear any pedaling.

Greetings followers and potential "Newbees",

I hope everyone is starting the 2013 New Year out with good health and wishes.

I just wanted to update you on the performance of the bike and bring to light a couple of things I would like to impart based upon recent queries about the bike.

1) When adjusting the magnetic tension knob, each number has a detent that you feel when you reach a specific number. You can also set the knob in between the detents for a more gradual stepping between numbers, in case you were unaware or unsure about it. It will not hurt the machine. Simply put the magnetic tension is based upon the spinning flywheel (generated by your pedaling) and the distance a set of strong magnets is from the flywheel. As you adjust the numbers up the magnets get closer to the flywheel and the effect is heavier loading. The opposite happens when you adjust the numbers down.

2) Someone spoke about a "flex" in the center bar when pedaling. They were concerned that a "child-not very heavy" was causing this flex. The flexing of the bar is a matter of pedal loading to body pressure on the seat assembly. As you pedal, the pressure of your back/body on the seat and the loading from the push on the pedal with your foot storke causes an upward force on the bar while a resting or middle positon of the pedal stroke allows a realease of that force or allows a downward motion of the center bar. This flexing has more to do with pedal loading than body weight. The machine is designed to work within a range of loading and the length of the center bar (and guage of the channel stock) makes the difference of how much flex is induced into it. If the bar was 2 times longer between the front and rear bars,the flexing would be even more noticeable as the magnetic load is increased. The machine is designed to perform safely and reliably and the flexing is a normal physics phenomenon not to be concerned about.

3) Finally, I am enjoying the benifits of this bike and it has been totally reliable and extremely quiet to date. I find the best time to workout is in the early morning when you are fresh and I always watch a TV program or movie while I do it. The time goes by and you can set the type of work load for heavy workout or just medium to light for the extended time of the show you are watching. You will be surprised how much better you can do. I watch the complete "Miami Vice" DVD package one episode at a time when I work out. The music and show are totally cool and it is a great experience/workout for my choice of entertainment.

I have still experienced no problems with my Exerpeutic 900XL to date. I see by other reviewers that the larger percentage of buyers have been also very satisfied. I realize that on occasion, everyone experiences a "Lemon" and we all hope to avoid this type of experience. I also realize that certain characteristics of a particular design may not conform to everyone's liking. So, with that said I wish for everyone the best experience possible with this recumbent bike. I will continue to update my experiences as the bike ages. I will promise everyone the honest truth about the bike when and if it ever fails to perform at some time in the future I will inform you by a review and what exactly went wrong. After reading some of the negative reviews on those who had problems with the grinding sounds after using the product for

some time I have a possible theoretical idea of its cause. As of today I have yet to experience any problem with the magnet assembly or any grinding sound. I only set my loading in the range of 1-4 on the magnetic resistance loading. So, and this is

JUST THEORETICAL, perhaps this is happening to those users who set much higher settings. The higher the setting, the closer the

magnet assembly is to the flywheel surface. Perhaps a failure occurs with time at the higher settings due to this. I have not

had any discussion with anyone who experienced this problem. So, if one was concerned that this may be a possibility they might want to check with someone who had this problem. Ask them what setting they were using when it failed.

I have had the setting up to 6 and 7 briefly to check it out but for most people, unless you are pedaling slow with the higher heavier load settings, most of us will never venture there for any period of time or at all. Most users probably stay at or under 4. I would predict that most are 2-3 range at a maximum 15-20 mph pedaling speed for periods of continuous riding from 1/2 to up to 1 1/2 hours straight. This is more than ample for the average rider, in my opinion of course.

If anyone reading this update has had negative results with the higher settings, I would like to hear from you so we all can benefit from the information and make better informed decisions on the type of equipment that will best suit our level of fitness.

I hope this update shed some light on this area. (All load settings may be okay and once in a while a bad assembly slips through.)

I can only report my own personal experiences so far and they may fall short on every possible situation. But for most riders, I think there will not be very many issues with this bike. The feedback from the "Masses" indicates this to be true so far.

One last bit of advice; Always start pedaling with the load setting at the minimum and rotate it up to the number you wish to be at. Do not start it at 8 and come down. ....$%@?Xz!

I am in the middle of a diet and exercise program, and have been aching to get a recumbent exercise bike since the beginning. I am keeping a blog about my weight loss and mentioned it several times. My parents took note of it and purchased this for me for Christmas 2011. I was real excited when I got it home and put it together.

It assembled real well; it's straight-forward enough that for the most part you don't even really need directions. I used them anyway, though just for posterity's sake. It took about an hour and a half, maybe two hours to do by myself, and would've been quicker if I had been a bit more organized (half of that time was spent trying to find my tools again after moving to the next part).

It's very quiet, and the tension settings are easily adjustable. The seat is fairly comfortable, and as long as you have the adjusters tightened correctly it makes no noise as you ride.

The display is fairly simple; it displays the current distance, the time spent, your current heartrate, your mph, and how many calories you've burned for the workout. It also keeps a running count of your overall distance. It doesn't have any fancy programs or anything, it just comes on when you start pedaling. I like that because it's more like a real bike -just get on and ride!

The only issue I have is that adjusting the seat takes a little getting used to. There are three stabilizers for the seat, and I have yet to be able to adjust them without unscrewing them all completely and putting them back in. I'm sure that's just a learning curve thing though, and really doesn't detract from the experience at all.

Long story short, I've had an excellent time with this bike so far, and would highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for a relatively inexpensive bike.

I was in the market for a piece of exercise equipment that would provide my wife and I with a good cardiovascular workout. Any additional benefit such as lower body, upper body, core was secondary to that. Also my wife is still recovering from leg injuries and she never really used an elliptical we bought before all that much. The elliptical was well over twice the price of the 900 XL and it broke just after a year. So I wanted a recumbent bike that was good but I did not want to pay for a mid or even premium priced one. I am also around 260 lbs. For all those reasons I decide to go with the 900 XL.

Set-up: We were actually very impressed by how the bike is shipped to you. If you open the instruction booklet you are likely to freak out by all the parts listed. But the vast majority of pieces are already put into the machine. Now you will have to take bolts out and then back in, but there were only 6 loose bolts. Where they reasonably could have done the construction before shipping and still fit the item in a box, they did. It took us about 2 and half hours. Including the one hiccup we encountered which took about 30 minutes. This was the tension cable set up. We had to get a wrench and loosen a screw. The instruction booklet does not tell you to do this. But after trying everything else this was the only other thing to try. We did that and then everything went smoothly. The instructions are straight forward and not a single piece missing. If we didn't need to loosen that screw all the tools would have been included, there is a handy `multi-tool' that handles everything needed.

The bike itself is a pleasure to use. It is very easy to get to my target heart rate and keep it there. The seat and back rest are both very comfortable. There is a `computer' and it is very simple but useful. You get elapsed time, speed, distance, heart rate (which seems pretty darn accurate), and calories which has to be a guestimate since you do not enter weight anywhere. The tension settings work and the bike goes from way too easy to peddle to way too hard (for me and my wife at least). There are NO programs. No hill programs, nothing of that sort. You can set the computer to count down time instead of up but that is about it.

The one big downside is if you have people of different heights who all want to regularly use it. The seat/ back rest is held in place by 3 knobs. You need to get all 3 out and all 3 back in to adjust the seat distance. Is this is a pain? Yes. My wife and I are luckily just close enough that there is a setting just slightly too short for me and slightly too long for her that does work for both. Also I would be remiss in not reporting a couple of things. One the manual says 300 lbs not 325. This is a big deal as the 325 kind of sets it apart. Also we called support when we were having the tension cable problem and they never called back. Not good. The warranty also might be misleading. It says 3 years but then right below basically says anything I could think the warranty might cover as 90 days. So I am not sure.

Given those negatives, would I still recommend it? Yes I would. For the price I am getting a very comfortable and effective cardiovascular workout . This is exactly why I bought the bike. Would I like some programs, perhaps. But without programs I still am getting the workout I want. The biggest downside would be people of different heights in a household who all wanted to use it. Would everyone get use to adjusting the seat? I am sure they would. Is it a deal breaker, not if you want a good, solid piece of exercise equipment that gives a good CV workout at a good price.

I did debate on 3 stars versus 4 stars. I don't like products that say one thing, 325 lbs on Amazon then you open the instruction boolet and it says WARNING maximum weight capacity is 300lbs. They should fix the listing or fix the manual but not leave people wondering. Also not calling back was not very good customer service and does not leave me with a lot of confidence should something go wrong. The manual is also very evasive as to what is actually covered up to 3 years versus 90 days. I can usually parse that out, but not the way the company choose to word it. However right now it is working great for us, was exactly what I was looking for, is quiet and fun to use, so 4 stars.

The bike was received damaged as two of the sensor wires were severed/cut probably due to the metal pieces in the box. Also scratches on both sides of the plastic front main frame. Amazon will be replacing the bike.

The warranty states that the product is warranted to be free from defects for 3 years, BUT goes on to state that all parts and workmanship, including upholstery, foam, ball bearings, pulleys, cables, shocks, all tension mechanisms, wheels, pedals and hardware are to be free from defects for 90 days. Therefore, you can surmise that you only have a 90 day warranty not 3 years very deceptive.

After careful studies of a bunch of different recumbent bikes, I decided to try the Exerpuetic 900xl through Amazon. I ordered on Sunday and recieved the bike on Wednesday in excellent condition! Packaging was excellent as well. I was a little skeptical about the assembly because of some of the reviews other consumers left. Maybe I am just a super handy woman, but I put this bike together unassisted in under 1 1/2 hours while baking cookies and doing laundry! Please don't let other consumers negative experiences with assembly change your mind to another brand. The directions look intimidating, but if you just read them while looking at the parts they are pretty self explanatory. The manufacturer did all they could to minimize consumer assembly by having all but a few bolts installed in the parts when packaged. The wiring is a piece of cake if you just look at the ends closely. I cannot say a lot about the computer program yet as I have only used the bike 5 times for 10 mins each so far. Everything works perfectly though and I look forward to finding time to be on it a whole lot more. This is a great bike at a great price through Amazon, and free shipping to your door! Review of Sturmey Archer S30 3-Speed 36h, Internal Drum Brake

I like and use this 3 speed hub on a custom beach cruiser. It is inexpensive, available and works silky smooth. The built in brake is a plus to keep out sand and allows you to reposition the bike pedals for a strong take off from a traffic light. My only negative point is that the gears are wide where a regular derailer would have 5 gear steps that this hub spans with three. So, this results in a transition of pedaling too fast then too slow with a gear change on the road.

I have the hub from the fishing reel company and the one with the artists name and 2 of these from SA. They are all different and they are all different compared to a deraillreurs.

With the SA you cannot play around with the way this works with the dropouts on your frame, in other words, do not try to loosen the axle to clock this one to work, you will mess up the way the bearing is adjusted and be in a spot with trying to bring it back to spec or not ruining it while riding on it in this state. This may be problematic considering the frame brace on this with the drum brake needs to be in a certain spot. I have one on my daughters bike with the front facing 45 deg dropout and on a track frame with horizontal dropouts and they both needed finagling to get right but they both work fine.

Next, be mindful of how this is adjusted in second gear and don't ride it hard immediately because there is going to be cable stretch and loosening/re-tightening of the cable as you dial it in on your first ride, be patient. I go with the 2:1 chainring to cog ratio, no issues with any of the chain rings or cogs and I use a lower cost $10 chain from one of the 2 big companies, I use an 18/38-36 on my two.

Finally, this does not shift like the precise fishing reel company's hub, it is a bit more laid back, and not at all like a derailleur. There must be zero tension on the chain when twisting into a new gear, do not force it! It is not like a derailleur where you may want a little tension as you shift to get the chain on to the next cog. I will be honest, I ruined my first one because I thought I should be mashing into the next gear, I also ruined the twist shifter trying to force it into what I thought it should do or wanted it to do before I adjusted it properly. It is just different and you need to get used to it. You would think I would toss it and do something different after blowing it up but my daughters setup has been perfect, 2nd one I did, and thought it was worth another try because operator error was likely to blame.

Because it is different and laid back, it does not lend itself to MTB riding because it is bit slower and you have cannot have tension on the chain,which is necessary on a MTB bike when negotiating obstacles, when changing gears. Do yourself a favor and keep this one on the road!

So, you cannot beat this for the money, it is smooth and quiet and comes with everything you need in the box to install it (everything). I did notice that SA is incorporating updates into the hub, improving little things from the ones I bought a year ago, so you know that SA is making constant improvements in the product which is a good sign that they are selling these and committed to a high quality product. I really like it and think I got a very good deal on it considering it comes complete..

I really like this 3 speed hub. I converted my bike to a cargo bike (xtra-cycle) the same time I got this hub. I originally had a 38 tooth single speed sprocket on the front. The 3-speed hub didn't work too well with that 38 tooth sprocket. (Had to hold the shifter down to stay in 1st gear.)

Got a 42 tooth sprocket from amazon and the bike really works superb now, better with this 3 speed than with the original Nexus 7. I knew this 3-speed shifter was the one I wanted, from when I was a kid riding my cousin's Raleigh. Really impressed by it then and like it a lot now. Seems stronger, smoother, more mechanically sound than the nexus. Riding in the rain probably did the nexus in. Won't need to ride in the rain with this one but bet it would hold up if I did.

Recommend the cargo bike too. Really nice to have.

I just received the wheels; I haven't ridden them and hope to update this when my new bicycle is built and I do. So far, they look very good and weigh a lot 1150/950g including skewers.

They come with spoke holes uncovered so rim tape or Veloplugs are needed I use the latter on my other A23 wheelset and they work fine.

I just received it from Amazon last week, set it up immediately, and only took it to the bike store to make sure of everything. It does NOT ride like a toy, as one customer said, but is far more steady than any Dahon I've ridden. It's a bit too heavy for me to lift up, but others may not find that a problem. Once you get the catch open it's difficult because a lot of pressure is needed, but that's for safety reasons it folds easily. For a man, this would be easier. An absolute pleasure to have the LOOP AT THE BOTTOM, AND NOT TO HAVE TO PUT MY LEG OVER A HIGHER BAR. The handle bar is fixed and can't be adjusted, but it's fine for me. The seat is adjustable, though. Goes up hills easily. This is far superior to the citizen bikes, in my opinion, with their rickety chain that falls off easily. It is rather larger than appears in the pictures, so look at the specifications carefully. I was surprised that Schwinn put it into such a shabby carton for the trip from China and then to other places before it came to me. All I did was rip the side of the carton open, and the bike slid out (folded, of course.)

As the "3 star" rater said, the bike seems to come damaged in the mail. One of my wheel rims is bent, the bike shop tried to "true" it, but it creates a little wobble when riding. Unfortunately a new wheel is 40-60 dollars.

The BAD:

The actual bike is made and china, and thus has some cheap parts. I've had the bike for about a month, and have foreseen numerous repairs that will eventually have to be made.

The bike also has a cheap gearshift, and even after it being adjusted by bike professionals it still jumps somewhat.

The folding quality is poor in that it will take you a good 10 minutes to fold it up. You also need to buy some bungee cords to hold it together after it folded.

This bike is extremely heavy for a folding bike. At least 40 pounds. Not buy if you will have to carry the bike for long distances.

The paint chips very easily.

THE GOOD:

Brakes (once adjusted) work extremely well. I guess the better make sure you aren't going to die on it.

It rides very smoothly when the gear shifter is working right. Very maneuverable.

The heavy frame is a detriment in carrying it, but comes in handy having a tough frame for a general solid ride. You don't really feel like you are riding a toy bike. It also protects from bends when transporting. It even has a derailer guard to protect it from getting bumped.

The seat it comes with is of extremely good quality as well as the handlebars.

It comes with a carrying bag, cheap but should last a little while at least.

Conclusion...

I paid 215.00 including shipping (well 230, since a tune up cost $15 which all bikes not sold from a bike shop need), which i feel was a far price considering this is a cheap beginners folding bike. However, I would unlikely buy it again.

I would rather pay the $440 for a dahon that is lighter and faster to fold. Dahon also offers a 16 inch wheel bike that is even more versatile as well as offering full size bikes that can be folded, some of which are tough mountain bikes.

Schwinn is nothing to scoff at, and that is why I passed up all other folding bikes on amazon. None of them (maybe minus one name brand) were worth even taking a second look at.

I would really like to give the bike four stars, but I can't solely because of the heavy weight, time consuming folding, and cheap derailleur. I can't give it a 2 because the bike is still worth the money rides nicely in general.

I would not, and have not taken the bike on a bus due to its heavy weight and bulky size even when folded. However it is effective on the BART or any bullet train situation because of more space.

I have written such a long review because i have had a month to test ride this thing and I feel it is my duty to inform consumers of my experience.

If you can spare the extra change get a dahon, but if you are tight on cash then go ahead and get this, but be aware that you do not have a folding bike. YOU HAVE A BIKE THAT FOLDS.

Best Deals for Schwinn Loop 7-Speed Folding Bike

I am somewhat of a seasoned cyclist of 60 years and after owning one of these and putting a some miles on it, just had to write a review; I plan to purchase a second one soon for my partner. I was at first concerned about this bike being able to support my 230-240 lb body; I researched it a bit and the specs say it supports 300 lbs, so my weight has not been a problem. This bike rides very well and has low rolling resistance, good tires, great brakes and gears. It gets many looks on the bike trail and is basically a pleasure to own. Owning a PT Cruiser also, it folds readily and there is plenty of room for other cargo, including a second Schwinn Loop, is light weight and easy to lift in and out of the car. I did put a wider more comfortable saddle on it but that is the only change I have needed to make. Its a great traveler. I drive between Palm Springs and Ocean Park WA twice a year and use it to explore the bike trails on the overnight stops. Highly recommend. T. Johnson, Palm Springs, CA.

What a fun little bike this is! It folds well, they were very thoughtful about the placement of everything when folded. It's very sturdy.I compared it to the Dahon, and while that is very slick and expensive this serves the purpose just as well.It does ride like a toy bike but with 20" wheels thats about what you expect. My range on it is about 10 miles round trip. That's about as far as i'm willing to go. More than that and you'd want a big bike. But it is perfect for city shopping and upstairs apartment living. I would buy it again.

Oh, you do want to take it to the bike shop for a tune up and adjustments beofre you ride it, though. I hear that's normal for all online bikes. The bike shops tune and adjust for you if you buy from them. Add that to the cost when thinking about prices.

I am a college student and desperately wanted a folding bike that would fit in my little car and would comfortably take me around campus. Of course my budget could not afford a Dahon (which is a fine bike!) so I opted for the Schwinn... I love it! I've had it for months now and I ride it every day around campus, it makes my life so much easier! It does not ride like a toy (ok, it is a little heavier than the more expensive Dahons and Boardwalks, but therefore is also very sturdy) and fits perfectly in my trunk (I own an old corolla). Cool kids kinda laugh at me when they see me pull up behind my car on my folding bike, but as soon as I fold it, lift it and pull it in my trunk, all in under 3 mins, they looked amazed and several people had already asked me where they can get their own (I still don't understand how someone needs 10 mins to fold/unfold this bike!! I do it under snow and in my office clothes hehehehe).

If you have a modest budget this is the bike to go. Might need some adjustment at the bike shop, but the bike is just too much fun to ride :)
