I installed this hub on my drop bar steel commuter bike. Using a 21t rear cog and a 38t front chainring, I get a good 48 gear inch low gear for starting out and climbing steep hills, and a 67 gear inch high gear that isn't too hard for the frequent wind advisory days we have around here. The hub shifts at 11.5 mph with my 700c wheels, making a great shift point when sprinting through intersections. If I need to climb a steep hill, I simply slow to just under 11mph and spin my way up the hill. The gearing is perfect for my commute. The automatic shifting feature is a great asset in stop-and-go city traffic. My normal cruising speed on this bike is 17-20 mph when my headwind is below 25 mph.

If you build this hub into a smaller wheel, the shift point will be lower than my 11.5 mph. This may be problematic for use on a folding bike, which would otherwise be an ideal use for this hub.

EDIT: I have located an online forum thread that describes how to adjust the shift point in the hub. I'm not saying you should do it. Any modification is at your own risk, and will certainly void the warranty. You can locate the forum thread by searching "ctc forum automatix" in Google.

The good: Easy to use, predictable shifting, and very little drag (noticeably less drag in high gear than the Nexus 3 hub it replaced)

The bad: When coasting at a speed above the 11.5mph shift point, the hub drops back into low gear. It shifts back up as soon as you start pedaling. You get used to it, and don't notice it after a while. Also, with my hub you can hear a light rattling noise when coasting over bumpy surfaces. I venture to guess its a result of the centrifugal weights not being engaged, but I haven't taken the hub apart to investigate. It's not a loud rattle, and it doesn't sound like anything's wrong with the hub. When pedaling over bumpy surfaces, the light rattle is not present.

All in all, I really like the Automatix hub. It has its minor imperfections, but it's simple and works well for city riding.

I have a Sram automatic on my retro 87 fuji with 700c rims. First thing to note is that a normal size chain ring is to big for the gearing. I have reduced my front to a 38t which works perfectly.

One odd thing to note is the hub is preset at the factory to automatically shift at 7 or 11 mph. There is no way to determine the configuration before purchase or easy way to adjust the shift points.

Overall I'm impressed with it. Reducing the front chain ring to a 38t made a huge difference.

Pros: gives you an added gear while commuting; clean looking; fairly quiet

Cons: Heavy. Shifts WAYYYY to early. Shifts going uphill. Downshifts when coasting.

As shipped, it is basically a granny assist gear and will shift after a few pedal revolutions. I took apart the hub and followed internet instructions to modify the shift point. The modification worked, but it was a real pain in the you know what. Little info from SRAM about this hub on the web.

Honest reviews on SRAM 36h Automatix 2 Speed Rear Hub

Like this hub a lot am using on a bike i ride to work. It is very smooth in how it shifts and very reliable, no messy shifts leaving you hanging in a intersection .A slight pause in the peddling is all it takes to shift into low gear The only maintenance i have had to do is tension the chain and keep it lubed . The key to be happy with this is to select the proper gearing . What worked for me was to find the highest gear that i could ride my whole commute in with my derailed geared bike mashing up the hills. Determine the gear inches using a chart and then making this my mid range for this hub. Then set this up by buying the optimum front chain ring. This gave me a low gear i am not going to blow my knees out with and a much better high gear so no spinning like mad man on the flats. This winter i want to set my mountain bike up with one of these.

The shift point is set so low that it shifts after 3-4 slow easy revolutions. My attempt to follow internet instructions to change this resulted in destroying the pins holding the commas in place. SRAM customer service was polite in stating no parts are available. The wheel is a total loss, so beware.

Reviews of Vittoria Ultralite Tube

Vittoria Ultralite Road Bike Tube - 700x19/23c
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

I ordered a pair of these, the rear one popped between 80 & 90 PSI as I was still inflating it, & the front one popped about 15 minutes after I inflated it to 100 PSI. Both wheels had rim tape & brand new tires, so I'm pretty disappointed at a grand total of 0 miles I got out of these.

I've had these tubes on for about 100 miles and still no problems. I wouldn't call them "ultralite" as advertised, i think some tubes go for less than 95g but they are light enough. They hold air well and are sturdy enough for NYC streets. I'll be purchasing another couple of tubes if I they keep me rolling over 500 miles. They're from Vittoria so you can't go wrong.

UPDATE: 5/6/2012

So I finally got a flat on this tube. I'm satisfied to say that this one tube kept me rolling well over 500 miles. Don't know the exact number but the quality of this tube is definitely there. It took one nasty pothole, downhill at +30 mph for my rear tube to pop. I can't find the hole even though the punctured tube keeps releasing air. The tube itself is still in tact, giving me an opportunity to patch it. I was 100% confident that I was going to be able to finish my ride until that flat. I was able to fix it right away though. I just came back here to order more. +1 star.

Hard to give a tube a review but I haven't had a problem with over 1000 miles so it's doing it's job. I'll start weighing different tubes I use which would probably be more helpful.

Honest reviews on Vittoria Ultralite Tube

So far no issues, I have driven about 300 miles on those, mostly on trails. Stem is firm, they fit well my Shimano R500 wheelset with 700Cx24 tires. It holds air ok between my weekly rides 50-70 miles. Though, I might occasionally add some air, like once a month just to keep firmness, as I ride them at 110-115psi.

I use a Zipp 808 as my rear wheel. Unfortunately, even 80mm Presta valves aren't long enough for that wheel, and no one seems to make 100mm valves. To avoid the mess that are Zipp's valve extensions, I bought the 51mm Vittoria tubes with removal cores and paired them with Vittoria's (ridiculously overpriced) 62mm valve extensions. I figured it would be best to keep manufacturers the same when pairing tubes/extensions.

For that application, these tubes (and the related valve extensions) work great. Beyond that, though, they're fairly standard high-quality tubes. Unlike Specialized tubes, these aren't threaded the whole way down should that matter to you.

We got these for our daughter for her 7th birthday, and now she won't take them off!! They are cute, and she says they're comfortable too. I'm glad we bought them...the price wasn't bad either!

I ordered these for my 8 year old. She loves them and they are very well made. They are right on target for the size. The shoe laces are very long so you have to tie them so that they don't get in the wheels. They are very cute and are geat fun.

I got these for my 8 year old daughter. She will NOT take them off!!

She loves them but I think they could be made a bit better.

The material is a bit flimsy, not as thick as a shoe would be.

The tongues of the skates dont stay in place, that annoys me but my daughter does not seem to mind that I have to untie and fix the tongue and retie the skate about every 5 minutes.

She is a beginner skater and these seem to be doing alright for her, so they are a good starter pair. If they were a bit more thick for extra support these would be close to great.

SIZING:

My daughter wears a girls size 2 SHOE. I ordered a size 3 SKATE because that is what she wore at the roller rink when she rented skates. They are a bit big on her, but almost perfect fit with two pairs of socks on. So the sizing is NOT right on the dot, it might be hard for you to decide on a size, sorry!

I bought these skates for my 4 year old granddaughter. She thinks they are super-cool. The quality is good and they look nice too. These skates were a wise choice and at this price I'd buy them again in a heartbeat!

Just received these skates and there is a warning sticker on the box stating that they contain a know cancer causing chemical also with a birth defect warning. REALLY??? I never would have purchased these skates knowing that. And I certainly won't be giving them as the intended Christmas present. This fact should have been stated in the description. Shame on you Amazon! How disappointing.

This trike is a must for 2 year olds. It is durable yet light weight if I have to move it. The tires are real rubber, not cheap plastic, so the traction is great. My son tools around the house on this trike on my hard wood floors without a problem, and I dont have to worry that he is scratching the floors because of the real rubber tires. My son can actually reach the petals, not like some out there. The sound features are awesome!~Not like some annoying of the sounds and music that some bikes or big wheels have. Real directionals that work and no annoying horn to beep. I love this trike and have recommended this to everyone I know who has children. I think the price is great also!

We read the reviews on Amazon and ordered this, and we're happy. There are several good points:

1. It looks like a real moped. Our 21 month old loves seeing motor bikes and mopeds, and is enchanted with having his own.

2. The style is good. It has good design the curves and styling has some quality to it. They have obviously thought about the aesthetics of this toy.

3. Its light. Our 21 month old can carry it around himself (for short distances).

4. Its easy to put together.

Overall, this is a case where the good reviews of this product have really come true for us, so far.

The toy is enjoyed by my three year old grandson. I also am writing to correct the review previously given as it was inadvertently given a low rating when it should have been excellent for service.

I like that you can purchase the Planet bike protégé 9 and switch it out to other bikes you own by buying just a new bracket. You can only ride 1 bike at a time so it's nice a company is considerate of it's customers. Awesome computer for your bike btw.

I have a recumbent bike, most speed cables are not long enough. This cable was long enough and effective a planet bike, bike computer would buy again

I used this to put my computer on the accessory mount over the front chainrings on a TerraTrike Rover. It was just long enough to make it from the sensor mount to the accessory mount.

Exactly like the sensor and mount that came with your computer, but with a longer wire between them.

These tires look great. I went with the white ones, knowing they wouldn't stay nice and pearly white for long, but I've been riding these for about 3 months and their more of an off white/grey than yellow, which is good.

I like the fact that the tread extends far (side to side...towards the rim) rather than just having a narrow strip of tread down the center.

So far, these tires have been pretty hardwearing, although skid a lot and the Fyxations are wearing more quickly than the gatorskins I had previously, but not by a large margin. Thes Fyxations look better and are cheaper. Lots of color options, too.

If you're on the fence, give these tires a shot.
