...because it seemed to be hard to turn when I pulled it out of the box. But I can barely tell it's on the bike, even with the headlight and tail light at full power. Get the right set up and you can charge your phone with it as you ride, too. Very high quality hub.

I got this for the chain tool. It works as well as a non-portable tool. For me, the other tools are just a bonus.

I would agree it has everything a "swiss-army" bike tool should have, including tire levers, spoke wrenches, a knife blade, and bottle opener. The halves separate and lock together easily.

Several of the tools lock open, and the knife also locks closes to absolutely prevent accidents. An interesting feature of the case it has a spring loaded belt clip for easy attachment to a pack or your waist. It also apparently has available accessory mating clips for quick release attachment to seat post or handle bar stem.

I would like to have compared the blackburn tools,Blackburn Toolmanator Multi-Function Bike Tool & Blackburn Toolmanator II Multi-Function Bike Tool but the bike mechanic I spoke with agreed this would do fine.

It is a nice tool set, include all the allen wrenches you needed to adjust bike handle, brake and brake handle, speed rover, seat position.

It also include the chain tool for remove a section of the chain. In addition, it has two size spoke wrench for ajusting the wheel.

When you ride your bicycle, your tires may rub against the brakes. This is easy to fix wheel problem spokes need adjusting. What you need to do is wheel truing.

Place bicycle upside down. Spin the wheel while holding a pice of chalk close enough to the wheel. After spun around a few times, stop the wheel and take a look those chalk marks. Do this process on the other side of the wheel. Tighten the spokes on the other side of the chalk mark and loosen the spoken facing the chalk mark. Adjust each spoke one turn.

Wipe out that chalk mark. Once all the chalk marks are gone, you can spin the wheels and using chalk to find the next spot to tighten and loose the spoke. At the end, you have a perfect round wheels :-)

The included spoke wrench has two sizes. It works fine for all our bikes.

I used this tool assembled a complete tandom bike in two hours. The tool felt little loose at the end of the assembly. But nothing really worn out.

I've been using an original version of this tool for the past 5 years, and would still be, if not for losing half of it on the trail. I bought this newer version as a replacement and have used it for three weeks. I find it inferior:

* Steel: I commute to bike in the northeast US; that means this tool will see everything from snow to hurricanes and everything inbetween. The original tool held up well, but, after 3 weeks of mild summer weather, this new tool is already pitted with rust. At this rate, I'm skeptical about the tool lasting to winter.

* Craftsmanship: The machining of the original tool was more exact. The 15mm wrench, for instance, fit snugly over bolts. On the new tool, the wrench fits loosely, gouging the steel as you work fruitlessly to try to change a tire on the road.

* Joint: The joint between the two main pieces is much flimsier than in the original tool.

The upgrade version of this tool may be better, but it's hard to say. This tool, though, is poor enough that I'm considering just carrying a bag of tools with me.

Nice tool kit..very good quality but....

The pouch it comes in has a bracket on the back which mates with the F55 Fixer (not included) which staps on to any post, othewise there is no good means of attachment. The F55 Fixer is a $3.95 part which for some reason they decided not to include with the Alien II itself. Shipping for this part is $5.58. Now I ask you...who wouldn't want to have this included with the Alien II?

As a new bike owner I purchased this to cover all of my bike tool tech needs, with the exception of tire levers. From a cost standpoint it was only a little more than tools that provide less, and other reviews noted how sturdy this tool was. To that end this tool has mostly met all of my requirements with the exception of the 15mm wrench which you'd normally use on pedals. There is simply not enough torque available with a tiny little 2" long wrench to remove heavily tightened pedals from the cranks, even when inserting the large allen on the multi-tool into the wrench which is supposed to give you the extra torque.

I do have some minor complaints with this tool: the wrench falls off easily (see product image, the wrench is displayed separately, the snap it fits on isn't tight enough), there is a small sliding nut that provides the largest sized allen wrench (you can see it in the customer uploaded images) and it often slides and falls off the tool. And overall the tool is too large, bulky, and heavy for smaller pouches and it ends up eating up nearly the entire pouch. Consequently, for home/shop use the tiny tools are difficult to use due to being bundled onto the multitool meaning things are in the way, or the tool is difficult to hold. Usually on the trail all I've needed is the allen wrenches and screwdriver. If I had to do it all over again I'd buy a much smaller multi-tool for trail use and separately a normal sized collection of bike tools for home/shop use.

Conclusion: I give this 5 stars for being what it's supposed to be. I ding myself 1 star for thinking buying a big, bulky multitool and expecting it to work like a small, tiny multitool and also an entire shop worth of man-sized tools. :)

I enjoy the bike for cruising around town now that I've assembled and tuned it. However, it took a fair amount of work to get it running smoothly and I had to buy some tools.

Here's the list of tools needed from the outside of the box:

Hex wrenches (included)

Adjustable wrench

Flat and phillips screwdrivers

Headset wrenches (I didn't use any)

Crank tool (I didn't use one)

Cone wrench

Chain tool (I didn't use one)

Pliers

Torque wrench

The assembly instructions that came with the bike were not specific to this model. I have toyed with bike repair before and figured I would just have to screw some things together. This was mostly true, but there were a few things I had to tweak before I was comfortable riding it:

1. There are torque specifications printed on parts of the frame -most of them are 5NM. I guess you could just tighten things until it feels right, but I wasn't comfortable doing that.

2. The front wheel wobbled. I brought it into a shop to see if it was true. It was, but the locknuts were not tight against the cones. So, I ended up buying cone wrenches.

3. The brakes squeaked a lot on my first ride, so I adjusted the toe-in.

Another note -the wheels and seat post are not quick release.

In the end, assembling the bike was more work than I expected. It's light and fun to ride now that it's rolling, and I expect it to last many years.

Got this bike few days ago.

Diamondback should be ashamed of themselves.

The assembly manual is not specific to this model, but to ALL the models they make.

Like the other reviewers, I too have a click that comes from the rear of the bike. I cant quite figure out where its coming from, and its rather frustrating. I took the bike to a mechanic who took apart the rear assembly and re-lubricated the whole thing. The click is still there.

I am thinking of returning this bike back to amazon. I already spend 50$ for assembly and diagnostics.

Otherwise, the bike is light, looks slick. Does not come with a stand. If it wasn't for mechanical issues I would give it at five stars.

I was so excited when REI emailed me to tell me the bike was in. Problem was it is tough to get to REI in Dallas due to construction and distance but got to the store.

The bike was assembled by bike techs there. I tested seat height and had them adjust it but did not take it on a long ride.

Once home I did and at first I was very impressed with the fast speed, lite weight, along with the braking power.

But then it started.

A constant muffled click sound that radiates right to my feet.

I thought it was the pedal crank gear but after flipping bike over I now believe it is the chain.

There seems to be alot of sideways play of the chain on the rear wheel sprocket. Almost as if the chain is too wide.

So now I have to take another stressful drive to REI and have them try to figure out actual problem.

The good price you get becomes not when you have to waste gas to solve product problems.

I hope this click can be resolve or I will return for a refund which would be a dang shame since I do like the bike.

Honest reviews on Diamondback 2013 Insight STI-1 Performance Hybrid Bike with 700c

Hello All,

I have been reading the reviews on this bike for a whole summer now, and I am a little disheartened to see that a few people expressed some frustration with the bike and a clicking sound they can't seem to get rid of. I bought my bike from Amazon (w/ $150 Amazon gift card), because I needed a taller bike (XXL-23in) model, I am 6'5" tall and a larger frame was essential. As you can imagine the options were pretty minimal for bikes of that size, so I gave this one a shot.

I was a little thrown off, when I received the bike because it was a single speed. I was expecting an 18 or 21 speed bike with shifting gears. I didn't know if I would like the bike so I held on to the original box thinking I was going to return it after a short while. The bike came almost fully assembled. I put the tires, handle bar, seat and pedals on myself. As soon as I put everything together, I found the bike need the touch of a professional. I took it down to the local bike shop, and they were able to calibrate the brakes, and make sure everything else is fully functional. Since I had a professional take a look at the bike, I have zero problems with the bike (lucky for me I guess). I use the bike mostly for leisure rides with my family in various state parks around Michigan. We always make sure to stay on a paved trails, as the ride gets pretty bumpy when you ride on dirt or gravel paths. I have learned to love the single speed, and even learned more about the fixed speed cult of hard core riders out there. Which this bike has the option to turn the back tire around and try it out the fixed speed. I am still a little too new to try the fixed speed myself. The single speed is great, because it makes the bike so much lighter, as well as proves to be very simple to ride. There are no gear shifters to click back and forth to get the right setting, and less moveable parts seems to give the bike a solid (indestructible) feel. If you want to ride fast, just pedal hard, you want to ride slow, don't pedal as much. I love the bike and expect to keep it for a very long time.

Don't let the other posts scare you away. If you like it as much as I do I know you will keep for a very long time.

I have an expensive full suspension mountain bike that I enjoy riding on trails. However, it is not the ideal ride for the easy paved cycling trails around here and pretty expensive to replace if stolen. The ST1 is perfect for the level paved trails I use it on and going without the gears is pretty cool. Frame is excellent and the components are of good quality. Highly recommend.

I have run 2 sets of the Detonators. First set had zero problems but one tire of the second set started to split in numerous places around the tire. The separation happens between the black traction band and the colored side walls. Some separations were over 1 1/2" in length and the tire cords were exposed. This happened with just 200 miles on them.

It's a great tire and very fast, it just didn't hold up though. I got about 700 miles on it before the sidewalls started to slip a bit. Still it held the road very well and is very light.

These also came standard on my bike and I have had endless binding issues in the back caliper. I have adjusted the mounting, the caliper bled, etc.... but to no long term benefit. I am certain it is the materials used in the piston seals which are inherently faulty.

First the concept of hydraulic brakes on bicycles is questionable. As a motorbike mechanic, given the relative mass of a motorcycle compared with the rider, it makes sense to have hydraulic disc brakes for weight savings and the amount of braking forces which are frequently necessary to come to a stop from, let say, 100kph with a average mass of 350kg. However, with a bicycle, it is MUCH less noticeable. In actuality, there is more of a tendency for the brakes to work too well and your wheel then skids or worse, you fly over your handlebars. Even in bicycle competition, one wants to minimize braking to take advantage of momentum. Whereas, in motorcycling, the engine will often be the first method of braking.

Second, let's assume that hydraulic disc braking is needed. I have read several posts where the solution to the binding issues are to bleed often and to lubricate the caliper piston seals with silicone often. Imagine if a motorcycle or even your typical automobile owner had to do this every time they went for a long ride or once a week. Most would turn to a more reliable vehicle. So other than being a bicycle enthusiast, I do not know why the bicycle industry and all its customers have not made a claim against Avid for their caliper as faulty and a serial defect? Intermittent binding of calipers are unsafe. This tends to heat up the hydraulic system which only causes the fluid behind the caliper to boil, degrade, and expand adding more braking forces on the piston. It is a cascading effect. If this happened in the motorcycle or auto industry, these would have been recalled the first year they were used. However, bicycle manufacturers continue to experiment on their customers without any liability or safety regulation.

I recommend mechanical disc brakes as a compromise until this braking technology matures to become maintenance free.

I put these on my hybrid bike for commuting. Some would say you don't need discs for the road. Some would say that mechanical discs are fine for the road. However I commute through the steep hills and traffic of Seattle and I want brakes that work. Rim brakes suck and after my experience with mechanical disc brakes I'd say they suck too. Once these are adjusted they are good. I had to realign my mechanical every few weeks. Then after they failed the first time i decided to go Hydraulic.

There are better brakes for mountain biking but if you want overkill for the road these will work great.

I did blow through the back pad quicker than the front but that might just be my crazy overuse of the back brake.

the brakes did not meet my expectations, I have given much of a problem since the install, do not brake well, I decided to take them to my mechanic for review and adjust to discard the system had no air bubbles, the problem is that the brakes lose braking pressure to go which is dangerous because you lose your grip, do not recommend...
