I do ride with a lot of gear more than 80 miles every week. I pack my lunch, books, water, extra clothes, and locks. The weight adds up. And as a 160 lb rider, that puts a lot of stress on your wheels. I have been breaking spokes every 2 weeks recently so I thought it's about time for a replacement. I got this wheel because it's reasonably priced with quality parts. DT Swiss? 105's? C'mon it's not the best, but for a commuter like me? that's all I need. Product was delivered in a timely manner. It was true and smooth rolling out of the box. Don't forget to adjust your cones before you ride though. They are a little bit tight. The A23 rims are also REALLY wide. I heard that these are well known for being wide tires but when the wheel came I realized the reviews weren't kidding. I had to adjust my brakes to accommodate these wide rims. They are great wheels, very durable and very stiff. I would recommend buying this wheel for the everyday commuter.

These wheels use good components, the Shimano 105 hubs and Velocity rims are excellent! They do need some love though...

When I receive them, the back wheel was significantly wobbly... To the point they wouldn't roll because of break rub. That was about 5-8 mm off. Front wheel was perfect. Once trued, I went for my first spin. About 30 min, 8 miles with some fast moments (30+ mph), sprints and small hills.

Once back I noticed the rear wheel slightly out of true... So I began tuning the wheels. That's a few hours of work with great attention to detail. Here's my process, based on "Professional Guide to Wheel Building" by Roger Musson (

Oil nipples

Stress relief by squeezing spokes

Lateral True

Check for dish

Check and adjust for even tension (plucking each spoke for tone) balance tension in 1/8 to 1/16 of a turn increments

Increase tension by 1/4 of a turn increments on each spoke

Stress relief

Pluck

Increase tension

Repeated a few more times. I increased tension on those wheels by about 3/4 turns.

On to my second spin the next day... Wheels felt more rigid and were true for the ride. Ride felt smoother than with my previous wheels with same tubes, tires, and air pressure as before. They roll very well.

When going back home, I hit something really hard with my front wheel at about 17 mph... Couldn't tell exactly what it was, I had to focus on traffic... It damaged my front tube (I had a flat)... But the rim was intact and the wheel perfectly true. Definitely a quality set if tuned properly.

Note that I had similar problems with a 29er Shimano set I got for my hybrid. Great wheels but also under tensioned. Perfectly trued out of the box but needed to be aligned after first ride.

I ride my Sbyke all over the neighborhood and it gets a lot of attention. Teens pronounce it, "so cool!" and kids exclaim "oooh!" when they see it. One older adult asked me if I'd built it myself which is actually a reasonable question in my Burbank neighborhood where a lot of movie tech people live. As a full grown adult, I had to adjust the rear spring to it's tightest because of the uneven sidewalks I have to maneuver. It doesn't take much to steer it wrong when you're this tall. I've become quite good at pushing with either foot now, on sidewalk or smooth streets. Thankfully, I live where the streets are well maintained. It's really a lot of fun and I bought a small basket for the front which gives it a perfectly adorable appearance! It's a great way to exercise!

This scooter has been great for my family, well made, glides smoothly, and good handling. I bought one for my daughter (8 yr old) and she quickly picked up how to ride and has been taking it out daily ever since, really great exercise I recently purchased another one for my wife so they could go cruising together and she's loved it as well, I'm impressed how it's versatile enough for a kid or an adult, the old Razor's we had never really worked for anyone but the kids with the full size deck and 2 stem sizes in the box though it is for both a small or tall rider.

Definitely worth the money and a good choice for a kick-scooter I would recommend it to other parents or anyone who wants to make a long walking trip more fun.

I have two recommendations for someone who's sit in office most of the time.

1. Please read the yellow label about putting air in the tire. The recommended psi is printed on the side of the wheel.

2. It takes practice standing on and making turn.

3. Take it easy.

I recently got a pair of Sbykes for my classroom and I couldn't be happier with them! They're incredible!

Let me tell you how it went:

The unboxing:

As soon as I opened the box, I knew I was in for a treat. As I pulled the three parts out, I was amazed at the build quality of the Sbyke. Everything has a real simple and solid feel and there were no signs of corner-cutting or cost-cutting on anything. The wheels, tires, brakes, handlebars, hand grips everything is really well made and sturdy. The first thing I thought was, "They sure don't make stuff like this anymore!"

Remember when toys were built to last? That's the Sbyke in a nutshell. This is a lifetime toy.

Assembly:

The assembly was easy and straight forward. The instructions were simple to follow and well-written, which seems to be very difficult for some companies to do lately. Within 10 minutes I had the Sbyke up and running. I was amazed at how solid-state the Sbyke felt after I attached the three parts (deck, front wheel, and handlebars). There's no give.

First Ride:

My first ride was short! Going down the playground I tried a turn and the Sbyke turned so fast (and tight) that I tipped off sideways. It was the kind of thing my kids and I love, so... Challenge Accepted! My kids and I started practicing and slowly we really began to get it. (Actually they got it a lot faster than I did!) It has a learning curve for sure, but it's a FUN learning curve. It rewards thoughtful practice at first as you try different ways of shifting your weight to get the turns and slaloms you want. Initially, you expect to turn the handlebars and steer that way, but it's actually quite the opposite. Eventually, the weight-shift steering becomes second nature, similar to what it feels like to be a good on a snowboard or a Waverunner. You become one with it and THAT'S when you really start to shine.

One thing is for sure: there were big smiles all around.

Tip: I got both a P16 and a P20 model and I'd say in retrospect I probably would have gone for two of the P20's. The benefit of the P20 is that there are spacers that allow you to raise or lower the handlebars to accommodate your children as they grow over the years. My kids are 7 and 8, and they ride both models equally well, but someday they'll grow out of the P16. I'm 39 years old and 180, and the P20 fits me perfectly, then I get off and a 7 year old gets on and rides it just as well.

If I were getting one for a kindergartener, I'd go for the P16, otherwise I feel the P20 is the best option.

Conclusion:

I'd like to commend whoever invented the Sbyke for using good old American craftsmanship and engineering and coming up with a completely new option for `family' vehicles. Anything that gets kids outside and moving is a good thing in my book.

Simply put, the Sbyke is a real crowd-pleaser and an all-around good time for everyone.

My kids and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it!

OK I am a grown-up (well sort of...). Fell in lust with the high tech design and extreme quality. We live at the beach where cruising the promenade on the Sbyke is the only way to travel. Heard rumors that an electric motor is coming in the future get out of the way Segway!
