I bought this because it was cheap, and I got what I paid for. The pin will not line up with the rivet, and the metal bends easily. After changing just one chain, the tool was bent entirely out of shape. Don't waste your money on this product.

An absolute piece of garbage. As many other reviews have stated, it breaks the first time you attempt to use it. I was dumbfounded by the cheapness of the construction. I've seen some cheap stuff from Bell before but this is truly remarkable. Calling this a chain repair tool is tantamount to false advertising in my opinion. The extra 6 dollars you will save on this vs a better brand will NOT be worth the raw fingers, sweat, swearing, and ultimately broken and unfinished project you will have in store for you if you order this.

I did not purchase this tool from Amazon, I purchased it from a local store. I removed one link from a chain and two of the metal teeth on the tool snapped off. I think they used some kind of powdered metal instead of solid steel. If you want a tool you can use again I suggest a different brand...

Although I have never used a chain rivet extractor before, I do not believe that the guides should be so frail. After popping the first rivet on the chain, the inside guide as bent, rendering the tool useless... Knowing I had nothing to lose, I tried to straighten out the guide and it broke off.

Not at all satisfied with this product. Easier to go buy a new chain and less time consuming than waiting for this product to arrive.

Review of Diamondback 2013 Insight STI-8 Performance Hybrid Bike with 700c

This is my third Diamondback bike, 2004 Citi (stolen) & 2007 Edgewood (still riding) although I'm sold on the product I did shop other many other brands. I was looking for more of a road bike than the Edgewood but keeping some of the toughness & upright geometry of a hybrid. All roads led back to Diamondback. This was the first bike I have bought without testing (or even seeing) plus with the internal geared hub, I was extremely apprehensive.

The bike arrived last week on time. The box was opened but nothing missing & otherwise in good shape. Assembly was easy; the back wheel was already installed so it was just a matter of putting on the front wheel, seat, handlebars and very minor brake adjustments. The assembly instructions were mostly generic and for the most part not applicable to the insight. The separate instructions for aligning the yellow lines on the Nexus hub seemed intimidating to me. I was totally unfamiliar with the internal geared hub and almost decided to take it to a bike shop. However the bottom line is the entire shifting system is already assembled/adjusted. All you have to do is turn the shifter from gear #1 to gear #4 and see if the yellow lines on the hub are aligned, it's that simple.

The handlebar is flat and the stem height is not adjustable. For my personal preference this is much too low for medium/long rides and really concerned me. However after adding end bars to the handlebar it works out great. In fact it is more comfortable than if I had adjusted the height.

To date I have put 76 miles (typical week) on the Insight (3X12 Mile & 2X20 Mile rides) of course I had to make some adjustments to suit me (the saddle had to go as a large 6' 3" male it was too narrow) but it has turned out to exceed my expectations. The ride is smooth and the eight gears are more than enough to handle what hills I encounter and plenty fast enough. I'm sold on the 8 speed hub it is great & very smooth shifting. It is also nice to be able to shift to a lower gear while stopped. If this holds up I don't know why I would ever go back to the derailer system. The bike provides a very comfortable, smooth and enjoyable ride. In my mind it is much closer to a road bike than a hybrid, exactly what I was looking for. I'm still sold on Diamondback.

PS: get an adapter for the valve stems ahead of time. They are not standard. It cost me three bucks at the bike shop.

UPDATE: 5/28/13

I put the 1st thousand miles on the insight STI-8 last weekend. I am still very pleased with the bike. I now average 110-130 miles per week (a significant increase since I bought this bike) mostly on multi use trails/paths, residential streets and a few short dirt roads.

It is very comfortable ride, fast enough to get you where you need to be while sitting in a more upright position than a road bike. When I need to go somewhere if practicable, it is my 1st choice of transportation. After 1k miles I went over the bike thoroughly checking for loose spokes, nuts & screws. No problems to report. The 8 speed internal hub in my mind is a great concept. I hope it holds up & catches on. I would hate to go back to the old derailleur system.

To let you know the bike also works great for the "seasoned", slightly heavier guy or gal who just wants a healthy & enjoyable way to get some exercise and around town. I'm 60ish (not a 20 something 1% body fat cycle enthusiasts) my average speed during rides is 11-12 mph. Bottom line the insight still exceeds my expectations. Still five stars.

UPDATE:9/26/13

I just went over 3000 miles this week on the insight and still very pleased. I am riding a pretty steady 135 miles per week now (15mX5d & 30mX2d). The only issue I have had is the back tire wore out at about 2300 miles. Of course I put off changing it until it blew out (I discussed the stupidly of procrastination with myself during the almost three mile walk back to the house). I have had to tighten a few screws & bolts mostly on the accessories I have added. Surprisingly to me the spokes remain tight & wheels true. This has been an issue for me with other bikes. The internal hub shifter is holding up well no problem at all. All and all a good ride & I'm still very satisfied with the bike. Again, still five stars.

Got it 4 days ago. Paid for assembling $50. The ride is smooth and light. Front breaks are a little noisy during wet weather (bringing it back to the assembling guy tomorrow). Gear shifter is smooth. After talking to a bike shop professional I have doubts about this bike withstanding robust trails. According to him labeling this bike as hybrid is just a sales pitch it is a road bike. Time will show.

The wheels were not true right out of the box. The pedals are flimsy for a mountain bike, which I thought hybrids were a cross between a mountain and road bike. I won't even mention how poorly the brakes were aligned and how bad they squeaked until I fixed them. The left crank fell off during my 2nd ride, and on my 3rd ride, the puncture resistant tires were anything but, as I now have my 1st flat. The seat is skinny, and not comfy at all even with the gel in it.

The only thing hybrid about this bike is the flat handlebar, which I'm replacing with a riser bar anyway. This is a road bike, nothing close to a mountain bike about this thing at all.

The internal gears work, but the wheel has a high amount of friction, and you can't coast very long at all on this bike.

Oh, I'm fixing all the issues that I can by swapping out pedals, seat, and now a new inner tube, getting the wheels trued, etc., and I'll still ride it on occasion, but it's not exactly what I had in mind. 3.5 stars for the bike, knocked down another 1/2 star due to numerous pre-assembled issues that needed corrected.

All the reviews said this product is heavy. They are right! When I received the box, I used a cart to take it to my truck (hard to get my short arms around the box to carry it comfortably). The trailer/stroller fully assembled is heavier than one would expect however, pushing it or pulling it on a bike is a snap. I sometimes forget it's behind my bike it rolls effortlessly. My 2yr old daughter loved her first ride in it and I'm ready to take her again. I chose this model over other brands like Instep because the construction seems more solid, study, and will last longer for not much more money. Plus it functions as a heavy duty stroller. My 2yr old will outgrow this a little faster than I anticipated (she will get taller and not fit comfortably quickly). I plan on selling the trailer online to recover some of the investment but I feel it will be worth the money even if I kept it.

Cons:

Not easy to collapse

Does not fold easily without taking off the wheel guards, then the wheels, the front wheel (which is time consuming but easy), taking off the canvas cover on top (not the sides), removing a horizontal brace between the two side pieces, removing the flag, removing the handlebar/brake (easy to do), then it will fold flat and you have a lot of left over pieces. It probably takes about 3-5 minutes for the average person to collapse so that's not bad but not as easy as a standard stroller. Some Mom's/Ladies would find it very difficult if you are not very mechanically inclined (no offense ladies) but my wife would get frustrated with this item. Plus you have a lot of pieces to keep up with in your car. If you don't mind all of this, it's a good product.

Heavy item, not good for ladies who want to transport it frequently in their SUV/car/van

Pros:

Its perfect for long day trips to theme parks and long term outings.

Rugged construction, should last many years for muliple kids if taken care of

Has a coil spring suspension which helps absorb bumps on sidewalks

Has actual bike tires on it that can be replaced if needed, not some plastic wheels that are specific to manufacturer

In comparison to the Instep models, this thing is a tank or the "Cadillac" compared to the Instep's Chevy Cobalt.

The stroller came faster than expected, it was easy to assemble and looks great. The swivel on the front wheel works good if you leave it loose but if you tighten the bolt down snug it doesnt spin worth a crap. The brakes needed some major adjusting and they are laughable because the brake consists of a bar that pulls against the tires when engaged to slow it down, they work though it wont stop very quickly in emergency situations. The overall quality is fantastic and I am very happy with this purchase.

I bought this trailer on Amazon based on a few great reviews it had and cheap price. The most basic Burley trailer is at least three times more expensive. Unfortunately, in this case you get what you paid for.

The trailer looks and feels poorly made. It is unstable and can be tipped over easily. None of the brakes worked, which I later noticed was also other customer's complaint.

I contacted Aosom Direct company about defective brakes in this trailer and they told me to ship it back to them. I paid $70 dollars for shipping (it is big and heavy), and now the company refuses to reimburse my shipping expenses.

Every time I contact them, they just keep coming up with different excuses. First they said I didn't tell them right away the item was defective. When I demonstrated that I did, they asked me if I have a picture of the defect. How can you have a picture of brakes that just don't brake? Finally they told me that not working brakes are not considered a defect in this product and refused to comment any more.

So in the end after wasting $25 + $70 on shipping this useless Aosom trailer back and forth, we had to go with Burley trailer. It is expensive, but has none of the problems of Aosom trailer: it is sturdy, very well made, nicely padded and comfortable. Most importantly both of its brakes work perfectly well which makes it suitable for any use: jogging, rollerblading, or biking.

I would never buy again from Aosom Direct company, they are unethical and don't care about their customers.

I bought this back in march and it is a great stroller/trailer. It pulls really easy and my son loves it. This model also has the stroller wheel which mounts on the back of the unit to keep the storage area freed up. It will easily hold two kids and store diaper bags and toys in the back.

Recently I had the swivel wheel come apart and I called customer support. They sent me the parts free of charge. Great service and very friendly.

CONs:

-Difficult to put together, instructions are very poor

-Does not break down very well for easy transport in a vehicle (pretty much have to take it all apart)

-With it being sturdy also means its heavy

-Tons of room means it really wide, does not fit through a normal door

-The brake is just a small medal rod that pushes against the tire, and one of the brakes is displaced and I could not install the medal rod because the tire was in the way

The CON list may be long, but in my opinion only knocked one star off. This is a great trailer and I look forward to many years with it!

Discount Tacx Trainer Tire

I used to use my old worn out tires on the I-Magic and wear them into oblivion to get everything but the oink out of them. However, they would slip and get bald spots and ride unevenly pretty fast and it made riding on the trainer less than stellar.

I figured I would give the Tacx tire a chance, and it is much much better than the old tire discards. It is really grippy and yet durable, doesn't run hot, gives excellent traction and is more quiet. It rides with a lower frequency hum and gives a more 'road-like' feel because it's not slipping at all.

I can't recommend the I-Magic (Fortius or the old one) from Tacx strongly enough, and this tire is a good one for those VR trainers.

UPDATE 8/10/11

I've done many many miles on the trainer, and the tire just failed tonight. I think this is a lot of miles for the one tire, and shows it is as good as I espected or better. The current Amazon price of just over $30 is much better than the price I paid from Niagara cycle works when I got the first one. Definitely a great tire for indoor use on the trainer!

I got Tacx trainer tire as a cheaper alternative to the Continental trainer tire I used for about 2 winter seasons on my Computrainer. When I first put it on I thought it was super sticky and figured it would grip like crazy. Started my ride and at lower speeds found it to be pretty quiet. After the trainer warmed up and I calibrated it, the grip seemed to go down and the noise level went up. I will usually have to really crank down on the wheel tension (regardless of tire pressure) to get a really good grip but doing that just makes the thing scream when I really crank up the speed and it just doesn't feel like the tire responds as well to resistance changes during a ride like the Continental does. I think once this one wears out I will be spending the extra few dollars and going back to the Conti.

I have been totally satisfied with this tire on my trainer. It is definitely quieter than my old used road tires and seems to last much longer. It does leave lots of residue on the roller, but I just clean regularly.

I bought this tire to match with my Tacx trainer. I've used Conti trainer in the past without issue. This tire squealed from the start. I adjusted the tension multiple times a ride and used 8bar as advised. At two weeks (14 trainer rides ) the squeal is constant and the tire is hot and sticky to the touch. I'm pretty sure I just got a bad compound, but I usually get a full off season on my Continentals. Anything is better than this tire.
