I purchased this spoke protector for a bike with a Shimano 8 speed rear derailleur. The bike originally came with an improperly sized spoke protector that had the three prong-type retention clips. Those little clips frequently break off leaving the protector flopping around. This freehub spoke protector has a smaller center hole which maintains retention for 360 degrees around the cassette. I know some people call these "dork-discs" but I think having one has no drawbacks for hybrid or mountain bikes. The additional weight on these bikes is negligible, and the cost is fairly low. If it prevents the chain or derailleur from going into the spokes, it's worth it. It won't bother me if bike snobs look down their nose at it.

Be aware that you will need the proper tools and knowledge to remove the cassette to install this protector. Hopefully if you're looking to buy this, you already know how to work on bikes; and the difference between freehubs and freewheels.

Was easy to install, not any problem since I installed it (a couple of weeks). The main challenge for these spoke protectors is for the little clips not to break and now is a little early to say if it is durable. Seems good though.

Used to replace worn out unit on my Trek 720 when I rebuilt bike. Installed easily (free hub was removed), fits perfectly, and looks great.

Does what it is supposed to do. A little larger diameter than the original, but does offer more protection. Easy to install after the removal of the cassette. Completes the rear wheel rebuild and makes it look new again.
