Cheap SRAM i-Motion 3 Speed Freewheel 36H Hub
This hub is smooth shifting, quiet and low to no maintenance. Good quality manufacture. I chose this hub when I built my commuter bike, trying to create a cross between a light, sleek road bike and a pragmatic, classic three speed commuter. The reason I am withholding that one last star is because the only choice of shifter Sram offers is a grip shifter design. This limited my handlebar options to a straight bar whereas drop bars or bullhorns might have been preferred for purposes of comfort and coolness. However I digress, returning to my thesis statement and in conclusion good hub.I had this hub for a little over a year and really liked it. I was on my daily commuter and functioned well with extremely little maintenance. My only qualm is that the pawl clicks in third gear were a little too loud for my liking. Then one day the axle snapped mid stroke and pitched me over the front of my handle bars. It wasn't too bad on me but the hub was totally wrecked. The break was right at the cable entry, which is a shame because one thing I really liked about this hub was its inside the dropout cable entry (compared to the sturmey and the nexus who's cable enters through the end of the axle on the outside of the dropout). SRAM was really cool and replaced my hub. Apparently going off or hopping the occasional curb is unwise for a 100kg rider to do on this hub. If you have questions about durability, I hear the nexus inter-3 is the way to go.
