I am new to bike riding and bike racksI had to have a hitch put onto my vehiclea ford escape.
My requirements were that it would be easy to use (or I wouldn't end up using it), that it be sturdy, attractive, have no problem with a kids bike, not have to buy extra accessories like crossbars to attach to my bike to use and be theft proof.
I read most of the customer reviews of many types and brands of bike racks here on amazon (thanks!) and finally decided on this one. It was $350. I put it in my cart, and one day it went on sale for $250. and I bought it then. Was 350 the next day!
So, it came in a big box, was easy to assemble by myself (with the eager assistance of my 6 year old:-)It easily clicks right into the hitch (2" or 1.25"). It is black and gray with accents of yellow. It isn't a far lift to get your bikes attached. Bikes secure with plastic straps around front and back wheels.
A couple of things could be betteryou MUST buy the saris locking hitch with it (about $30.)otherwise anybody could effortlessly unscrew the bolt and take off with your rack! I think saris should have that included with their package of their racks. Also, you are going to want a bike lock to secure your bikes together and onto the rack if you are going to leave your vehicle with bikes on as it, again, is effortless to strap and unstrap the bike to the wrack. (Ironic, as these were the features I was looking for.)I also wish they included some extra straps for securing the bikes, as my daughter's wheels are very wide (2-3", I need to attach 2 straps together for each of her wheels. I'm sure I can get extra straps somewhere...?
And, you MUST BE DILIGENT in tightly securing your bikes to the vehicle!! My first drive out wtih them, I got a honk from a passing car, as my daughtrers heavy cruiser had flipped upside down and was draggingpurely my fault, not the product's. Very embarrassing, lol!
End of review: I love it!
